Do you struggle to get nutritious food into your children (or have the time to even make it)?

I always feel better when I know our 2 have had something nourishing, but with a pre teen and teen it isn’t easy.

This is one recipe which I’ve used since they were young (adapted over time as I lost the original 😅)

Hidden Veg Sauce

It can be used with pasta, homemade pizzas, bolognese, you name it, and they still love it although don’t like to admit it!

A rough recipe for a batch cook is:

Onion
Garlic
1/2 grated or chopped apple
Carrot
Celery
Pepper

(You can add in any veg you have-courgettes work well)

Fry them up then add in a dollop of tomato purée, a sprinkle of sugar, a sprinkle of dried herbs (oregano works well), tin of chopped tomatoes or Passata and 500ml veg stock.

Simmer for approximately 20 minutes and season to taste. Then blend.

Do you get to Monday and feel exhausted? Work feels like a break!

For years I wondered what was "wrong" with me, with my son. ADHD? Autism? Bipolar? Bad parenting! No box quite fit.

Then I discovered Human Design. My son is an Emotional Manifestor. Suddenly it all made sense.

The teenage years have ramped up the intensity. But I've learned the best thing I can do for him is keep myself resourced. Yesterday I took myself to Leeds for a top-up day.

Challenges when I got home? Yes. But I handled them so much better.

Imprints we have from being children: “I’m not good enough”

Especially if our mothers felt this…our nervous systems picked it up.

This is what we teach in the K’nnekted method. Nervous system regulation. Finding the thoughts running in the background sabotaging us!

This week 2 things have happened where I’ve seen how far I’ve come and the impact of the work I teach (which I lived first)

1) In my bell ringing lesson, I made a mistake, went out of time, nearly lost hold of the bell but then recovered. The comment from my teacher was “You’re really good at recovering when things go wrong, some people just stop and collapse but it’s a strength of yours” I didn’t beat myself up, even internally. I realised I’d made progress. Mistakes ARE ok!

2) We were getting ready to go to a networking event in Leeds and we had an email from our children’s school saying it’s closed today (don’t start me on that!!). Previously I’d have been annoyed and felt behind on business building, but I just brushed it off. Saw the positive, a chilled day at home. More time to plan, create, connect.

Pivot.

Understanding how you tick is a game changer. I love life and all its twists and turns!

But school closed, seriously?! It’s only a little ice….🧊

Not all children love ’Christmas traditions’….

And it can be a very intense time of year when you try to bring the joy in the way you feel you ‘should’.

We have adapted as we‘ve moved through the years but these are some thing I noticed and maybe you can resonate too:

🔔 Our sensitive son DID NOT like Father Christmas

Of course, he loved the presents but he found the whole thing WEIRD.

Santa’s grotto….he knew something was ‘off’.
Santa cam….freaked him out and made him behave differently.
Stockings…I remember one year where he couldn’t sleep but the reason was because he was scared of a stranger coming into his house 🙈
Any time he heard the song ‘Santa Claus is coming to town’ he asked for it to be switched off immediately!

I think he was physically relieved when he found out the *truth*

🔔 Christmas ‘experiences‘ can lead to HUGE overstimulation (not pleasant for anyone)

The truth is, over time, we started stripping everything back and EVERYONE was happier.

There’s nothing wrong with our son, but our children speak and if we don’t listen to what they’re really trying to tell us….

They will show us through their behaviour.

I’m exhausted today…

I used to beat myself up when feeling like this and I’d spiral into ‘Should’ be feeling differently and all the negative self talk that went with it.

But, gradually, I led myself back to self compassion ❤️

Today, instead of fighting the tiredness, I’m letting it be what it is. My body is speaking, and I’m finally listening.

Unintentionally I developed a little ‘mind map’ I could refer to when feeling this way to check in and see what I needed…

I need it or my mind goes haywire 😂

Let this be your reminder to do something to nourish yourself today and to REST in whatever way feels good for you
