The Spitfire turned 90 today!

On March 5, 1936, the prototype Supermarine Spitfire (K5054) completed its maiden voyage at Eastleigh Aerodrome. Although it wouldn't see its first combative flight until 1939.

With Rolls Royce Merlin engines and a sleek elliptical design it was seen as an engineering marvel of its time.

For Hepburn & Hughes Spitfire planes are also what ignited the concept of upcycling heritage material into cufflinks and jewellery - allowing people to wear a piece of aviation history.

Oh my word - the sun is shining and it actually feels warm outside 🌞Although I may have been a bit optimistic with throwing a summer dress on 😆

It's perfect timing though to introduce these beautiful new pieces to our Aquamarine collection - the birthstone for March🩵And they have all the sea-side spring vibes!

Half term last week meant we didn't get round to celebrating Chinese New Year. 2026 marks the Year Of The Horse 🐎

Celebrations usually begin on the second new moon after the winter solstice, and last for 16 days. Which means in 2026 they run from 17th February to March 3rd.

Interestingly this year the transition to the year of the horse is also aligned (within the same 48hrs) with the start of Lent and Ramadan. The first time in 163 years

Our Chinese New Year collection of sterling silver jewellery features materials with deep roots in Chinese heritage.

We use authentic Jade, a stone used for over 7,000 years to symbolise luck and protection.

Our range also includes upcycled Blue Willow pottery, repurposed from antique Minton porcelain to showcase traditional Chinese folklore.

Other pieces from the collection include Tibetan turquoise and jewellery and cufflinks made from traditional Mahjong tiles.

The lovely Meg Muir - Artist 🎨 has worked her magic again on these stunning hand painted sea glass pendants.

Meg is such a lovely gentle soul who has been dealt some tough cards over this last year. She finds solace in her painting to create beautiful botanical and nature themed artwork on glass. The level of detail she achieves is incredible.

We have been collaborating with Meg for several years and her pendants are all for sale on our Hepburn & Hughes website.

The current wildflower collection includes these pretty heart themed pendants - combined with poppies, daisies and lupins. Lovely gifts for valentine's day 💝

We are Louise and Zoe, and we come from very different backgrounds – Louise from the media, while Zoe comes from the world of finance, but we both have a passion for unusual and stylish jewellery. Using sterling silver and a range of unusual products such as Clarice Cliff plates, ancient fossils and shells found in South-East Asia, we design unique pieces of jewellery including pendants, earrings, rings and brooches. Based in Kent and Derbyshire, we are inspired by items found in the natural world as well as vintage designs, and we love Art Deco styles! We hope you enjoy your visit to our shop.
