This week is myopia awareness week.

What is myopia? Myopia (or shortsightedness) is when objects far away appear blurry.

Why is awareness important? Myopia is on the rise world wide. It is expected that 50% of the world population will be myopic by 2050. Myopia increase our risk of certain eye conditions such as retinal detachments, glaucoma and macular degeneration.

What can I do? There are several things you can do to help reduce your child's myopia. One of which is to reduce their screen time and get them playing outside. It is recommended that children are outside for 2 hours a day.

There are also treatments available in both spectacle and contact lens form.

It's sun awareness week, and the sun is actually shining.

This week highlights the importance of protecting ourselves from UV damage by taking some very easy steps:
Avoid being out in the sun in the middle of the day.
Wear a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen to protect your skin and your eyes.
Make sure to drink plenty of water and avoid direct sunlight.

If you don't have a great pair of sunglasses already, why not pop into your nearest practice and have a look at our wide range of prescription and non prescription styles.

With the weather forecast looking warm and sunny for the next week, lets make sure we all enjoy the outdoors whilst taking care of ourselves.

We are very proud to display some of the lovely artwork from Shaftesbury Primary school in support of Hedgehog awareness week! Our local community has been asking drivers to slow down at night in attempt to save our spiky friends 🦔
