Emotions in the Body – Client Reflections
🌿 The Voice — From Silence to Expression
Today’s reflection is about the voice.
A recent one-to-one session with a woman in her 50s revealed tension not only in the throat, but through the jaw, chest, and belly — the whole pathway of expression. Over the years she had learned to stay composed, diplomatic, accommodating. But when expression is softened for too long, the body often tightens around the very channel that allows truth to move.
In traditional understanding, the throat centre relates to communication, authenticity, and the courage to speak. When words are repeatedly swallowed, the muscles brace. The breath shortens. The voice becomes smaller.
Using gentle bodywork and shamanic drum vibration, we worked through this channel slowly — belly, heart, throat. The drum’s steady rhythm created safety; its vibration encouraged movement where there had been holding. There was no forcing, no dramatic release — just a gradual opening.
The voice does not need to be loud to be powerful.
It needs to be honest.
This is also why our Monday group drum sessions are so meaningful. In circle, rhythm helps dissolve inhibition. The beat regulates the nervous system, and something ancient begins to rise — confidence, presence, expression. No performance, no judgement — just shared vibration and collective grounding.
When women gather and allow their voices — whether spoken or drummed — something shifts.
Sometimes healing begins the moment we allow ourselves to be heard.

Emotions in the Body – Client Reflections
🌿 The Belly — Liberating the Stuck Voice
Today’s client was a woman in her 50s.
For many years she has been strong, capable, supportive of others. Yet during the session, it became clear that much was being held in the belly — that deep centre connected to instinct, personal truth, and the voice we sometimes silence in order to keep peace.
In many shamanic traditions, the drum is used not only for rhythm, but for liberation. Its steady beat mirrors the heartbeat — grounding, ancient, and direct. When used in a one-to-one session, the vibration can travel through the abdomen, gently awakening areas that have been holding unspoken words, swallowed emotions, and long-buried expression.
As the drum resonated softly over the belly area, something shifted. Breath deepened. The body trembled slightly — not from fear, but from release. The sound created a safe container where the nervous system could let go.
The belly is often where we hold the voice we didn’t use.
The “no” we didn’t say.
The truth we postponed.
Liberation doesn’t have to be loud.
Sometimes it begins with a quiet vibration and the courage to feel.

Emotions in the Body – Client Reflections
🌿 The Chest — Grief & Protection
Today’s client was a 30-year-old man.
From the beginning of the session, there was noticeable tightness through the chest and upper rib cage. The breath stayed high, protective, almost guarded. In traditional Eastern understanding, the chest is closely connected to grief, loss, and the emotions we were never taught how to express.
Many men grow up learning to stay strong, to hold it together, to keep moving forward. But unexpressed grief doesn’t disappear — it often settles into the body, creating armour around the heart.
As we worked gently through the upper body and supported deeper breathing, the tension began to soften. The shoulders dropped. The chest expanded more freely. There was no need for words — just space.
Real strength is not the absence of emotion.
It is the courage to feel.
Sometimes the body protects the heart for years. And sometimes, it simply needs permission to open again.

Emotions in the Body – Client Reflections
🌿 The Feet — Direction, Grounding & Woman’s Energy
In honour of International Women’s Day, today’s reflection feels especially meaningful.
My client was a 20-year-old young woman, standing at the beginning of her adult life — full of potential, yet quietly uncertain about her direction.
She came with tension and discomfort in her feet. In traditional Eastern understanding, the feet relate to grounding, stability, and the path we are walking in life. When we feel unsure, unsupported, or pressured about the future, that uncertainty can show up right at our foundation.
At 20, the world asks many questions: Who are you becoming?
Where are you going?
Are you doing enough?
During the session, as the feet were gently supported and worked, something softened. The body relaxed upward from the ground. The breath deepened. There was a quiet sense of settling.
When a woman feels grounded, she stands differently.
She walks differently.
She trusts her own rhythm.
Today felt like a small celebration of feminine energy — not loud, not forceful — but steady, intuitive, and rooted.
Sometimes empowerment begins from the ground up.

🌿 The Solar Plexus — Strength & Boundaries
Today’s client was a man in his late 30s — capable, driven, carrying the steady pressure of responsibility.
From the beginning, there was tightness through the centre of the body — around the solar plexus area. In traditional Eastern understanding, this space relates to personal power, boundaries, self-worth, and the ability to say “no” when needed.
Often in men especially, strength is expressed outwardly — providing, performing, achieving. But internally, that constant forward drive can create tension in the core. The breath becomes shallow. The abdomen tightens. The body stays prepared.
As we worked gently through the diaphragm and upper abdomen, something shifted. The breath deepened. The guarding softened. The body no longer needed to brace.
True strength is not constant tension.
It is knowing when to hold firm — and when to release.
Sometimes supporting the solar plexus is not about building power, but about remembering you already have it.

Emotions in the Body – Client Reflections
🌿 The Hips — Vulnerability & Stored Emotion
Today’s client was a single woman who arrived carrying quiet, unspoken weight.
As the session unfolded, much of the tension revealed itself in the hips — an area often connected, in traditional Eastern understanding, with stored emotions, vulnerability, and the deeper layers we don’t easily show the world.
When life asks us to stay composed and capable, feelings can settle into the body instead. The hips, which support our movement forward, can become a place where hesitation, hurt, or unresolved emotion quietly rests.
During the session there was softness, honesty, and a moment of true vulnerability. And that takes courage.
Often, when people touch those deeper layers, it can feel unfamiliar — even uncomfortable. Being seen in vulnerability, and accepting ourselves in our perceived weaknesses, is one of the greatest challenges in life. Yet it is also where real strength is born.
Whether clients return or not, those moments of awareness matter. They plant seeds.
Sometimes the work is not about fixing — but about witnessing, and allowing ourselves to be human.

Very excited to share sacred drum birthing in Arundel on the 29th March Sunday . If you are interested send me dm. On the Isle of Wight offering small groups or one to one day too.
Your drum is far more than a musical instrument. It is a living medicine ally — a friend that can support your healing,
carry you on deep inner journeys, and help strengthen your connection to spirit and the wider web of life.
Creating your own drum is a powerful and intimate process, as your intention, love, and energy are woven into every stage of its birth.

Emotions in the Body – Client Reflections
🌿 The Belly — Safety & Big Feelings
Today’s client was a child of 8 years old, with full parental permission and presence throughout the session.
Children feel deeply. Often more deeply than they can explain. When emotions feel overwhelming or confusing, the belly is one of the first places to tighten. In traditional Eastern understanding, this centre relates to worry, fear, and feelings that are hard to “digest.”
This young client had been experiencing discomfort around the tummy area. Rather than focusing only on symptoms, the session gently supported relaxation, safety, and calm. With soft, age-appropriate touch and a quiet environment, the belly gradually softened, and the breath became steadier.
For children, the most powerful medicine is often feeling safe, seen, and supported.
Sometimes the body just needs reassurance that it doesn’t have to hold everything alone.

Emotions in the Body – Client Reflections
🌿 The Neck — Suppressed Truth & Inner Conflict
Many people today experience neck pain due to repetitive strain, long hours on mobile phones, and poor posture.
But when you listen a little deeper, the body sometimes reveals more.
Today’s client arrived with persistent neck stiffness and restricted movement. As the session unfolded, the tension felt protective — held tightly, as if something important remained unspoken. In traditional Eastern understanding, the neck relates to communication, personal truth, and inner conflict — the space between what we feel and what we allow ourselves to express.
Towards the end of the session, she shared that she has been living in a relationship she feels complete with for many years, quietly counting the days until she can move forward and create a new chapter. Yet she continues to stay in service — caring, supporting, waiting for the “right moment,” while placing her own needs aside.
Sometimes the body carries the weight of choices delayed and freedom postponed.
As the neck softened, breath deepened and movement returned more naturally — a small reminder that acknowledging our truth is often the first step toward release.

Emotions in the Body – Client Reflections
🌿 The Stomach — Anxiety & Emotional Trauma
Today’s client was just 19 years old, yet already carrying a great deal internally.
From the start of the session, tension was centred around the stomach area. In traditional Eastern understanding, this part of the body is closely linked with anxiety, emotional shock, and experiences that feel difficult to process or digest.
When emotions overwhelm us — especially at a young age — the body often responds by tightening and protecting the centre. Breath becomes shallow, digestion unsettled, and the nervous system remains on alert.
Through gentle, supportive work, the focus was simply to create safety and calm. As the session progressed, breathing softened and the body gradually moved from tension toward rest.
Sometimes the body holds stories long before we have the words to explain them.

Emotions in the Body – Client Reflections
🌿 The Shoulders — Carrying Responsibility
Today’s client was a single dad, balancing work, parenting, and the quiet pressure of needing to stay strong for everyone around him.
From the beginning of the session, the shoulders held significant tension — tight, elevated, and protective. In traditional Eastern understanding, the shoulders often reflect responsibility, stress, and the feeling of carrying more than one person should have to carry alone.
When life requires constant resilience, the body adapts by holding tension in preparation — always ready, rarely resting.
Through slow, deep work, the shoulders gradually softened. Breath deepened, posture changed, and the body began to release the weight it had been holding for so long.
Sometimes relaxation is simply the moment when someone no longer has to carry everything by themselves.
