Emotions in the Body – Client Reflections
🌿 The Voice — From Silence to Expression
Today’s reflection is about the voice.
A recent one-to-one session with a woman in her 50s revealed tension not only in the throat, but through the jaw, chest, and belly — the whole pathway of expression. Over the years she had learned to stay composed, diplomatic, accommodating. But when expression is softened for too long, the body often tightens around the very channel that allows truth to move.
In traditional understanding, the throat centre relates to communication, authenticity, and the courage to speak. When words are repeatedly swallowed, the muscles brace. The breath shortens. The voice becomes smaller.
Using gentle bodywork and shamanic drum vibration, we worked through this channel slowly — belly, heart, throat. The drum’s steady rhythm created safety; its vibration encouraged movement where there had been holding. There was no forcing, no dramatic release — just a gradual opening.
The voice does not need to be loud to be powerful.
It needs to be honest.
This is also why our Monday group drum sessions are so meaningful. In circle, rhythm helps dissolve inhibition. The beat regulates the nervous system, and something ancient begins to rise — confidence, presence, expression. No performance, no judgement — just shared vibration and collective grounding.
When women gather and allow their voices — whether spoken or drummed — something shifts.
Sometimes healing begins the moment we allow ourselves to be heard.
