Today was the official opening of our latest gallery exhibition which celebrates the strength, resilience and contribution of migrant workers in the UK health sector.

"Embers of Care", is installed in the Vickers Link Gallery at the Northern General Hospital and was today officially opened by Lisa Johnson, Operations Director who praised both the artwork and the stories behind each piece.

We were thrilled to have in attendance the artist, Yayen, who's journey from the Philippines to work in the UK inspired the project which is funded by the Arts Council. Also present were Sheeba and Anna, the two STH staff members who's stories are depicted in the original piece in the gallery.

Yayen intends to create 100 portraits of colleagues who have travelled here from all over the world. in 2025 Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust joined with 18 other NHS Trusts to be part of the project. Participating staff shared their stories which are reflected in the artworks you see here.

For the full stories behind each artwork, and to see a fascinating video presentation by the artist, please visit the project website at www.yayenart.com/embersofcare

This exhibition will tour our three hospital gallery spaces which are generously supported by Sheffield Hospitals Charity

Another lovely bauble session at NGH today! Thanks to all who attended. It was so lovely to see all of your creative bauble ideas, and having our musician there Manny definitely helped get people in the Holiday Spirit!

We have one more bauble painting session left if you've missed out! This will be happening on Thursday (18th) at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital (D-Floor Dining Room) between 11.30am and 2pm. See you there!

As always, a huge thank you to
For funding Arts in Health and providing the resources we need to make these sessions happen for staff.

The Staff Creativity Sessions are free for staff members, and operate on a drop in basis 😊

Don't Hush, our exploratory creative health sessions for parents who have experienced baby loss came to an end with a Secret Santa badge making activity.

We said our goodbyes through collaged messages for each other that can be worn or be pinned somewhere as a reminder that we're not alone.

Thank you for funding the sessions, the bereavement midwives team at for instigating the project and for hosting us.

Don't Hush - our final part of the exploratory creative health sessions ended with finishing our little clay shrines.

These gorgeous objects can be used as wall hanging candle holders to remember our babies who didn't make it but are forever present.

Big thanks to for leading the session. And to all our participants, the bereavement midwives team and for finding the sessions.

Also Jess Shipton and for hosting us at Millennium Galleries.

Don't Hush - our exploratory creative health sessions for bereaved parents - continued last Thursday evening when artist Emilie Taylor taught the group how to make a small memory shrine in clay.

"I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the session - I have been feeling quite low recently, thinking a lot about (my baby) Thomas. It was great to do something that was so immediate with material. I found it grounding and calming and, in a strange way, luxurious. I appreciated the time for quiet conversations with other mums, interactions between everyone felt very comfortable. there were moments of being individually absorbed, interspersed with sharing and helping each other which was lovely".

We will have one more session on 11th December, gathering feedback and suggestions to inform a funding application for a bigger longer-term program for bereaved parents in 2026.

If you are someone who has experienced baby loss, or if you know someone else who has and who would be interested to take part in a future programme, please get in touch with mir.jansen@nhs.net

Arts in Health delivered a tote bag printing session for and with the women who attend the weekly pain clinic cafe at Vestry Hall in Burngreave, Sheffield.

A month ago they made their own stamps. Today they used them to create their own designs for a tote bag.

Great to see everyone so busy having fun.

Big thanks to for hosting us, the volunteers and interpreters for helping out and all the women who had a go.

Big thanks, as usual, to who funded the two sessions.

Pictured are just some of the designs created.

This week we worked with the lovely .printmaker to deliver a gelli block printing session for the patients on the Princess Royal Spinal Injuries Unit.

We delivered the session in the beautiful outdoor space provided by - a sanctuary for patients to enjoy nature whilst staying at the hospital.

Inspired by the garden, these nature themed prints will be displayed in the family accomodation rooms on the ward 🩵🌿🎨

A couple of pictures from our baby loss awareness raising days at Meadowhall shopping centre.

Conversations with so many who had experienced, or knew people who had experience of losing a baby before or just after birth.

A big thanks to all who came by to talk, share and make bracelets.

We will be there again on Wednesday 15th October, first floor opposite M&S and Lindt chocolatiers. Everyone welcome.

Thank you
and the bereavement team from Jessops.

Part 3 of Don't Hush, our exploratory creative workshop sessions for parents who have experienced loss of late pregnancy., took place on 18th September.

We invited artist to take us into the exhibition of Liliane Tomasko to help us start to explore the shape and sense of our own bodies through drawing, starting with our eyes closed and using both our hands.

Here are some images of the life size drawings we created that evening.

Big thanks to
for funding these sessions and pregnancy and maternity staff who support this work.

We have two more sessions planned in October and November to bring phase 1 of this project to an end.

Arts in Health will be present during baby loss awarenesses week at Meadowhall Sheffield on 9th, 10th and 15th October. Come and find us at the stand. We will be there with the bereavement midwives' team and offer the opportunity to get involved in creative activity.
