Today we were pleased to host two community events at Outram Fields.

This morning, we welcomed the Tuesday Talk Club back for its second talk of 2026. The session, Garden Birds, was delivered by John Kirkman from the British Trust for Ornithology. All today’s subscriptions (£65) from the group will be donated to the Trust — thank you to John for his time and generosity.

In the afternoon, we welcomed members of the Parkinson’s UK Sheffield support group for an informative session on living well with Parkinson’s, led by Dr Bhanu Ramaswamy.

Opening our doors to local groups and organisations is an important part of how we stay connected with the wider community, and it was a pleasure to host both sessions today.

🧘‍♀️🎯 Regular Movement at Outram Fields 🎾🧘‍♂️

We had our busiest week yet with Community Wellness Services, and it’s been wonderful to see so much energy and enthusiasm from our residents!

Our movement and games sessions strike the perfect balance between fun and exercise, encouraging participation, engagement, and plenty of smiles along the way. This week they brought out the bullseye mat and enjoyed some balloon tennis, adding a healthy dose of friendly competition 🎈🎯

Our Tai Chi sessions offer a more focused approach to movement, supporting flexibility, strength, stamina, and coordination. It’s inspiring to see our residents’ commitment to staying active and maintaining their mobility, reflected in how popular and well-attended these sessions continue to be.

A lovely rhythm to the day at Outram Fields.

Yesterday morning was spent baking flapjacks together — weighing, mixing and sharing stories along the way. Activities like this support dexterity, focus and confidence, while also creating a strong sense of purpose and teamwork.

In the afternoon, the rewards were enjoyed properly, with freshly baked flapjacks served in our cinema during a relaxed film showing.

Simple moments, thoughtfully planned, can make a meaningful difference to wellbeing.

🎨 Crafting Corner 🎨

Our residents enjoyed a relaxing and creative morning painting their coiled snake pots from our Animals in Hibernation project. It was a lovely, chatty session, joined by our fantastic volunteer Daisy and Phoebe, who is currently completing her work experience with us here at Outram Fields. 💬 🐍

Spending time connecting with art is a wonderful way to soothe the nervous system, encourage hand-eye coordination, and explore creative expression. It was lovely to see everyone so focused, calm, and proud of what they created ✨🖌️

On Thursday evening our General Manager, Donna held her very popular Pub Quiz Night. The subject this month was classic films and the teams were challenged to spell Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious😂 Name the 7 Dwarfs and remember which film the line 'Frankly My Dear, I Don't Give a Damn' came from😊 All whist enjoying a glass of wine and a packet of crisps. Well done to Team Gill who came first🎉👏
Quizzes are good for the brain, strengthening long term memory, through active recall and of course boost engagement and laughter❤️

What a fantastic Friday at Outram Fields! 🎶✨

This week’s entertainment saw the brilliant Gerry Graham treat us to a spectacular Legends Show, with much-loved covers of Neil Sedaka, Neil Diamond, Roy Orbison, and of course the one and only Elvis Presley. 💃🕺

We loved Gerry’s fabulous fancy dress and bold, infectious energy – it had everyone smiling! Residents were up dancing around, singing along, or happily toe-tapping to the music. 🎤❤️

A huge thank you to Gerry for joining us and making the day so special. We can’t wait to welcome you back! 👏🌟

We were delighted to welcome 25 members of our local community yesterday to our free Falls Prevention Talk 👏

A big thank you to Pete from Hallamshire Physiotherapy Clinic for joining us again and sharing his expert advice on falls prevention. His practical demonstrations and clear guidance were really well received by the group and gave everyone useful tips to take away and use at home.

Thank you to everyone who came along — we hope to see you all at our next community.

An expanded dementia community at Outram Fields

We’re pleased to share that a second dedicated dementia floor will be opening next week at Outram Fields, offering families greater choice and continuity in dementia care.

The new floor has been designed to support people in the earlier stages of their dementia journey, providing a welcoming environment that encourages independence, familiar routines and everyday enjoyment. It also features generous garden terraces, including a greenhouse and wheelchair-height vegetable planters, creating opportunities for time outdoors and meaningful activity.

Our existing dementia floor will continue to provide dementia care within a familiar and supportive setting and also benefits from its own terrace, ensuring residents across both floors have access to outdoor space.

Together, our two dementia floors allow us to match each person to the environment that suits them best, while supporting continuity of care within one cohesive community.

This afternoon our residents were joined by Lucy for a bright and uplifting flower-arranging session 🌸 feelgoodfloristry
Lucy brought along some beautiful spring flowers and showed us a simple but effective technique for creating a lovely table centrepiece to help make the home feel fresh and welcoming.

Along the way, Lucy shared some interesting flower facts, sparking plenty of conversation and happy memories of gardens and flowers grown over the years. It was a relaxed, feel-good session enjoyed by everyone.

Thank you, Lucy, for a wonderful afternoon 💐
