Young Healthwatch Sheffield

Young Healthwatch Sheffield Open to anyone between14-25, dedicated to listening to the views of children and young people, and to give them a voice in shaping health and care services

Why are we important? We exist because we have to by law (The Health and Social Care Act, 2012). This is because health and social care services see that they need to make sure that the views and opinions of the patients who use the services need to be heard so that they can provide the best service they can. We are dedicated to making sure that these views and opinions we hear are strengthened, and given to the right people, such as those who commission, deliver and regulate health and social care services. We do this to ensure that the Young People involved in our group are making as big of a difference as possible. We work in partnership with Sheffield City Council, Sheffield Clinical Commissioning Group, Sheffield Children’s Hospital, schools, and the Young Carers Forum. Children and Young People themselves will shape how Young Healthwatch will work and engage with other children and young people. What Do We Do? Give children and young people a voice

-Finding out what children and young people think of health and social care services and helping to reach those “Hidden Voices”. Improve and influence services

-Supporting children and young people to shape services that are relevant to them (e.g. commissioning, youth proofing)

Have monthly meetings

-Continuing to engage the members of the group, to discuss any news and opportunities available.

Face covering exemption cards
In many healthcare settings, such as hospitals and GP practices, patients are being asked to wear a face covering or a face mask.

Some people find wearing a face covering difficult because of disability or extreme distress. These cards can help you explain why it is difficult to wear a face covering. You can print the card out or store it as a photo on your phone.

The Eve Appeal is also delighted to announce its new live series, Probably Nothing. Every Tuesday at 6pm on Facebook and Twitter, Eve's Cancer Information Officer, Karen Hobbs, will be joined by an expert guest to answer the gynae health questions sent in by our followers.

Most of the calls to our nurse-led information line, Ask Eve, start the same way: ‘It’s probably nothing, but’. Our nurse service, Ask Eve, is here to answer those questions, set minds at rest, provide expert information, signpost to trusted sources and tell you when you should get yourself to a doctor.

You can find out more at eveappeal.org.uk/probablynothing.

We need you! The current pandemic has affected people’s health, and care and support from statutory and voluntary sector organisations. We want people’s views and experiences to be heard by decision makers who are considering which of the recent changes they have implemented have and haven’t worked well as they plan for the future. One last statement from Holly our Operational Support Officer, she couldn’t quite narrow it down to what our do best (there’s SO much!) but she did think that we are all one big family.

As well as HWSHeffield we also run a group aged between 16-25 who focus on health and social care services for young people. Tara joined us early this year just before the pandemic hit and hasn’t started for us yet but we want to say many thanks for wanting to! Here’s what Tara is looking forward to.
