📣 Acceptance Matters Speaker Spotlight: Dr Luke Beardon
Acceptance Matters Virtual Conference | 24 April 2026 | 9:30 - 3:30

We’re thrilled to kick off our speaker spotlights with someone who needs little introduction in the autism community - Dr Luke Beardon, an internationally respected educator, author and advocate whose work has shaped thinking and practice across the UK and beyond.

With decades of experience in the autism field, Luke has dedicated his career to championing autistic people and challenging outdated assumptions. His influence spans residential and diagnostic service development, national consultancy, academic research, and global speaking engagements, including Parliament and the United Nations.

Luke is also a prolific author, co-writing the landmark ASPECT report (2007), editing five books, publishing eight acclaimed titles, and contributing to major media outlets including the BBC, The Guardian and The Times. His award-winning teaching and supervision continue to inspire the next generation of practitioners and researchers.

Join us on 24 April as we bring together leading autistic voices to rethink what real acceptance looks like in practice.

People are just as wonderful as sunsets if I can let them be.

When I look at a sunset, I don’t find myself saying, “Soften the orange a little on the right hand corner, and put a bit more purple along the base, and use a little more pink in the cloud color.”

I don’t do that. I don’t try to control a sunset. I watch it with awe as it unfolds.

We feel what we feel. We need to allow every feeling the dignity of its existence. Then we can decide if we want to take it to heart or let it go.

Autism and ADHD very often co-exist. This can feel like a tug of war in the mind, and can feel impossible trying to balance two completely opposing needs. Because of this, AuDHD can appear like a different presentation altogether. An individual may feel they don’t relate wholly to autism or to ADHD.

Just because it looks different to someone else’s experience that doesn’t mean it isn’t valid. Autistic experiences are as important as neurotypical ones.
