South Yorkshire & Bassetlaw Bowel Cancer Screening Programme

South Yorkshire & Bassetlaw Bowel Cancer Screening Programme We are the NHS bowel cancer screening programme for Barnsley, Bassetlaw, Doncaster, Rotherham, and Sheffield. Age 50-74? Age over 75?

You'll receive a FIT kit in the post every 2 years. Call 0800 707 6060 to request a FIT kit every 2 years.

Don't ghost your FIT kit this October!

Just a tiny sample can detect signs of cancer before you notice anything is wrong.

98% of people that return their kits receive normal test results. A positive test result doesn't mean cancer (in fact, less than 10% of people with positive test results are found to have bowel cancer), however it does mean that you need further investigations.
Bowel cancer is much easier to treat when it is found out the earliest stages.

If you're sent a FIT kit in the post, put it by the loo. Don't put it off. It could save your life.

You can find out more information by visiting our website https://www.sth.nhs.uk/find-hospitals-and-services/northern-general-hospital/a-z-hospital-services/bowel-cancer-screening-in-south-yorkshire-and-bassetlaw/ or calling the free helpline on 0800 707 6060

The earlier is spotted, the more treatable it’s likely to be.

The symptoms of bowel cancer can include:
• bleeding from your bottom
• blood in your poo
• a change in your pooing habits. You might be going more or less often, or have diarrhoea or constipation that might come and go
• losing weight but you’re not sure why
• feeling very tired all the time but you’re not sure why
• a pain or lump in your tummy

Even if it’s just one of these symptoms, ask your GP about an at-home test.

When the bowel screening kit arrived, my dad just left it on the side. He kept saying he’d get around to it, but weeks passed and it stayed unopened.

I saw a Call for a Kit post on Facebook, and the line ‘Screening saves lives’ really caught my eye. I clicked through to the website and was relieved to see how simple it looked — just three quick steps: complete, seal, post.

I showed the page to my dad, and once he saw how straightforward it was, he agreed to do the test. I felt reassured knowing I’d helped him take a small step that could make such a big difference to his health.”
