We recommend that everyone that receives a bowel cancer screening kit in the post returns it, even if they have no symptoms. Screening can detect signs of cancer before you know anything is wrong.

However, if you do notice any of the following symptoms, at any age, it is important to see your GP (even if you have had a recent normal screening test!)

Bowel Cancer UK

The earlier is spotted, the more treatable it’s likely to be.

Having these symptoms doesn’t always mean you have the disease. But it’s still important to find out what’s causing them.

Our information is here to support you. Find out more about the possible symptoms of bowel cancer here: https://bit.ly/475m1DO

"My Grandad had bowel cancer found through bowel cancer screening and is going through chemotherapy now. We are very grateful for the screening programme."

This November, for , we are sharing stories that men have shared with us at our various health promotion events.

"My biggest regret is ignoring one of those. I was sent a FIT kit but ignored it, then I was diagnosed with bowel cancer one year later.
If I had done that screening test, things could have been a lot better for me."

When Steve noticed blood in his poo alongside some stomach pain, he assumed it was to do with his IBS.

"My wife was the one who sent me to the doctor after I told her all my symptoms," he says.

His doctor referred Steve for some scans, which discovered he had bowel cancer. Speaking about his experience, Steve said: “I was lucky as the cancer was caught early and it had not spread. I needed surgery but did not have to have chemotherapy or radiotherapy."

We’re committed to helping improve the early diagnosis of cancer, when treatment is more likely to be successful. That’s why we've partnered with Tesco to help spot cancer earlier. Tesco pharmacists have received training from us to provide shoppers with support on possible signs and symptoms of cancer.

If someone notices something that's unusual for them, they can have an initial conversation with a Tesco pharmacist in the convenient and familiar setting in-store, and receive guidance on next steps.

Steve is celebrating being cancer free after receiving his 13th year of clear scans.

“If there is one message that I would like to share it would be that early diagnosis is so important," he says. "So, if you notice something that’s not right for you, just make sure you talk to a health professional about it.”
