5 Signs Your Dog Might Be in Pain 🐾

Dogs are masters at hiding discomfort - here are some signs you might notice:

Reduced activity or reluctance to move – skipping walks or stairs

Stiffness after rest – struggling to get up in the morning

Changes in behavior – irritability, avoidance, or unusual clinginess

Altered posture or gait – limping, swaying, or holding a limb differently

Changes in appetite or sleeping patterns – eating less or sleeping more than usual

Early detection can make a huge difference in recovery and comfort. If you notice any of these signs, it’s worth checking in with a vet.

🐶💛 Your dog can’t tell you when it hurts - but you can notice.

Stiff in one rein? Listen to that.

Uneven movement is often one of the earliest signs that something isn’t quite right, and it’s rarely just a training issue.

Subtle stiffness, resistance or difficulty bending to one side can point to discomfort, weakness, or compensation elsewhere in the body.

Catching these signs early can make a huge difference to long-term soundness and performance 🐎

❄️ First run of the year, braving the cold ❄️

There’s something special about getting back out after a break — a happy dog, fresh air, and some stunning snowy scenery definitely help 🐕🤍

Whether you’re getting back into running, agility, canicross, flyball, obedience, or any other dog sport, the same principle applies: build things up gradually. Sudden increases in intensity, speed, or duration are one of the most common causes of muscle and soft tissue injuries I see.

Starting with shorter sessions and steadily increasing workload allows your dog’s muscles, tendons, and joints time to adapt — and keeps them feeling comfortable and confident as they return to work.

Most importantly, it should be enjoyable for both you and your dog. Moving well, staying healthy, and enjoying time together is what it’s all about ✨
