Disabled children and young people are so often left out of conversations about movement — and that’s something we’re deeply committed to changing at Align Family Wellness. Every child deserves to feel included, supported, and able to participate in physical activity in a way that feels good for them.
These recommendations come directly from the UK Chief Medical Officers’ Physical Activity Guidelines, developed with disabled children, families, and professionals to make movement more accessible and meaningful.
The guidelines
• Aim for 20 minutes of physical activity per day, or 140 minutes across the week
• Include a mix of aerobic and strengthening activities
• Adapt and tailor movement to each child’s abilities, energy levels, and health needs
• Pacing and rest are essential — recovery is part of the plan
• Enjoyment matters — movement should feel safe, achievable, and fun
Every child deserves the chance to move, play, and participate in ways that celebrate what their body can do.
If you’d like help adapting activity for your child, we’re here to support you.
