Final spaces available for the Autumn term -

+ Chair Pilates, Mondays at 1500, Digby Hall, Sherborne (next to the Library)
+ Gentle Pilates, Tuesdays at 0900, Tinneys Lane, Sherborne
+ Pilates (must have done pilates before or have a good level of fitness), Tuesdays at 1915, Cam Vale Hall, Longburton
+ Chair Pilates, Thursdays at 1015, Digby Hall, Sherborne (next to the Library)

All other classes are fully booked.

I also now only have 1 space for a new 1:1 client, starting in September (daytime only as all evenings/earlies are full). I teach out of my home studio in Longburton.

Thank you for your continued support!

This lovely retired client came to me as a referall from a local physio, she's gained increased spinal mobility and is able to keep on top of her garden now without her bad back stopping her. Look at this gorgeous movement and coordination!

When Pilates pup decides she wants to hang out with us, there’s no shifting her!

Here are two chair Pilates clients trying to do some internal and external hip rotation and she refused to budge instead being happy to be tapped on the head each time!

I spent Sunday training to be a pitch-side First Aider.

Whilst this photo makes it look like I've got stuck in a first aid box, this is actually a make-shift tourniquet.

If a proper one isn't available where you are, it's critical you are able to produce one and the pen here would be used to twist the bandage (the glove being used to cover the wound) to cut off the blood supply.

We also learnt how to effectively use a defib (more about that another time) as well as how to support Coaches to reduce injuries through safe pre-season training and taking in to account environmental conditions.

It was so interesting and I was able to apply a lot of my pilates knowledge (think coordination and balance!) to this conversation.

As a pilates teacher, I have to regularly update my first aid knowledge so this was a great top-up!

Let’s talk calcium. Are you really getting enough?

It’s crucial for bone health—and it’s not as simple as reading a food label. Most of us have no idea how much we’re actually getting each day, especially when we’re eating home-cooked meals, takeaways, or anything without a nutritional breakdown.

👉 If you’re curious, try the Edinburgh Calcium Calculator (link in comments).

It’s a simple way to track your intake over a full week and gives you a rough idea of where you’re at.
Now, here's the kicker...

The standard recommendation for women post-menopause is 1,200 mg of calcium per day. That sounds like a number, but what does it actually look like?

📌 Here's a rough guide to what 1,200 mg might look like:
A glass of milk (250ml) = 300 mg
A small pot of yoghurt = 200 mg
A matchbox-sized chunk of cheddar = 200 mg
A portion of spinach or kale = around 100 mg (but not all absorbed easily)
A handful of almonds = 75 mg
A tin of sardines (with bones!) = 300 mg

So unless you’re regularly having multiple servings of dairy or calcium-rich foods each day, it might be worth checking in.

That’s why this calculator is handy—it gives you the full picture across a week.

Some experts say 700 mg might be enough—especially since tools like this don’t catch everything—but either way, it’s worth knowing where you’re at.

Remember, calcium is key for strong bones and our ability to regenerate our bones reduces as we age, sob.

I’m curious: are you taking a calcium supplement?

Let me know below!

My pilates clients are the best!

Check out how much they love Pilates Pup -

Pup always comes to say hello, and sometimes, she doesn't want to leave.

Here are a few photos of her with some clients recently. It has been suggested that I train her up as my assistant so she can teach pup-lates....!

🔥 Too hot to move?
😩 Can’t be bothered to work out?
🥵 Feeling fed up and generally wiped out?

Try this:

👉 Lie on your back and rest your legs up on the sofa or a chair.

(Hips and knees bent at 90° — no fancy kit needed and this is ZERO effort.)

That’s it.

Five minutes like this can:

💆‍♀️ Ease pressure off your back
🧘‍♀️ Calm your nervous system
💨 Help your breathing settle
😌 Give your body a proper reset

No sweat. No guilt. No effort. Feel free to drift off and have a nap!

This is just a quiet moment that helps everything feel better.

PS — If getting down on the floor isn’t your thing, just sit back in a chair with your feet flat and take a few deep breaths. Just breathe — in through your nose, out through your mouth, slow and deep. Let your shoulders drop. Let your ribs soften. Even two minutes of this can help reduce tension and reconnect you to your centre.

You don’t need to push through. You just need to listen in. This is perfect for today if it's going to be super hot AGAIN where you are!

There's a reason you can't bothered to move when it’s hot.

When the temperature rises, your body shifts into energy-saving mode.

More blood is directed to your skin to help cool you down, which means there’s less available for muscles. Your heart works harder, and your brain starts sending “ugh, don’t” signals to conserve energy.

On top of that, even mild dehydration makes your muscles feel more stiff and tired — and can mess with your mood and motivation too.

PPS = I tried so many times to take this photo but Pilates Pup kept coming and laying here, in the end I gave up! Hopefully you get the idea! hahaha.

Is it just me, or is this weather zapping every ounce of motivation?

I took Pilates Pup to the beach this morning — it was lush, cool, and actually bearable. There was a beach rugby festival going on, phew! I hope they applied some suncream!

Fast forward to now: 34 degrees at home and I’m melting. 🫠

My brain: We should do some exercise!
My body: We should lie down with a massive ice-cream and/or glass of wine and not move until September.

What’s the most effort you’ve made today?

I’ll go first: I walked across the kitchen… slowly. 😂

Tell me I’m not alone?
