A quick post about the importance of regular maintenance and battery testing!

This scooter was left unused for a few years. Batteries were left uncharged but not completely flat.

Charged on Monday, they did get a little warm, so i set up a timelapse (it failed). The batteries were tested brilliantly! 132% and 112%, then on recharge, they started expanding.

Even we make mistakes! These were left to charge overnight after their test. As you can see, they have expanded to the point of almost popping!

Heat generated in the charging process builds up and creates resistance inside the battery and through the terminals, which prevent the charger from reading the correct voltage of the batteries and turning themselves off! So the chargers just keep on pumping in power.

This is an extreme example and very rarely happens. But this is exactly why you should NOT charge your scooter batteries if you have left it for several months. Call us, get it booked in for a test, and a proper assessment. As soon as we noticed these batteries were warm under charging, their usable life was over. We followed up with the test and recharge just to get some good images for this post. I was not expecting them to go up quite as much!
