Normalising the Fourth Trimester ✨

Those early weeks can feel overwhelming. Mood swings, tears, highs, lows - many emotions are completely normal. But if things feel heavy, constant or unmanageable, that’s when reaching out for support is important.

✨ Postnatal Depression vs. Baby Blues
Baby Blues: Common in the first 1–2 weeks. Tearful, emotional, easily overwhelmed.
Postnatal Depression: Longer lasting, deeper sadness, anxiety, withdrawal, or loss of interest. Not your fault - and absolutely treatable.

✨ Coping With Sleep Deprivation:
Exhaustion affects mood more than most realise. Small resets, micro-rests, lowered expectations, and gentle self-talk can make a huge difference.

✨ Bonding Difficulties With Your Baby:
It happens more often than people admit. There’s no shame. Bonding can be gradual - skin-to-skin, quiet moments, low-pressure connection, and professional support can all help.

• Emotional birth prep: Use affirmations, visualisation, and simple fear-release techniques.
• Partner support: Regular emotional check-ins strengthen connection.

Postnatal Mental Health
• Fourth trimester: Overwhelm is normal; hopelessness or disconnection isn’t - reach out.
• Baby blues vs PND: Blues pass in days; PND lasts longer and feels heavier.
• Identity shift: Give yourself compassion as you grow into the “new you.”
• Sleep deprivation: Use small resets - slow breaths, brief pauses, lowered expectations.
• Bonding: Connection builds over time. Skin-to-skin and gentle rituals help.
