My new classes go live today so I thought it was a good moment to (re)introduce myself and tell you a few things about what you can expect from practicing yoga with me.
1. I’m Victoria, yoga teacher, journalist and mother to two little girls. I’ve practiced yoga regularly for coming up to 20 years (I started young 😉) and it is a really important part of my life.
2. I’m not an ex ballerina / ex gymnast /flexy bendy type. It took me a long time to be able to touch my toes and I can’t do a pincha. But, I can use my breath to change how I feel, so that is my yoga superpower.
3. I specialise in teaching pre and post natal yoga and I’m very interested in how yoga can support us through physical and mental changes. My style of teaching is always breath led, kind to the body and kind to ourselves. That doesn’t mean I don’t like feeling strong - I really do - but all movement has to start with the breath. That’s how we take care of ourselves.
4. I’m a big believer in the importance of community and I am very grateful to yoga for what it provides in this department. I have seen so many friendships flourish in my pre and post natal classes - this is a time when we really need the support of other women - and it is a beautiful thing to observe.
5. Everyone can practice yoga - it is truly universal. All it takes is a little connection to yourself, to your breath. That’s it really. And you’ll always feel a little bit better whether you’ve practiced for 5 minutes or an hour.

Pregnancy classes restart at the Shrewsbury Buddhist Centre in Castlefields on Saturday 26 February, 11:15am. Book via my website (link in bio).

Why should I go to a pregnancy yoga class?
This is something I could talk about for hours (and I will given the chance!) but here is a more succinct answer.
1. It feels amazing. You will leave feeling better than when you arrived and appreciating the capabilities of your body.
2. It is a really good way to look after your mental health. You will learn breathing practices to cope with anxiety and stress.
3. You will find yourself in an extremely supportive and kind community. I have seen many incredible friendships flourish.
4. It is empowering. You will approach labour and the postpartum period feeing better equipped to deal with whatever is thrown at you.
My Saturday morning classes in Shrewsbury start again at the end of February at the Shrewsbury Buddhist Centre. Get in touch if you would like to reserve a space or just to chat about how pregnancy yoga can support you.

Happy ! I’ve been doing a lot of this sort of thing for the last 12 months whilst we have settled into our new hood. It’s been pretty ace. Plus lots of writing, which, if you are interested, you can see over . But I’m pleased to say that I’ll be teaching yoga again soon. Watch this space or sign up to my newsletter (link in bio) for more details (coming very soon). I may not have been teaching but I’ve probably practiced more than ever and I can’t wait to practice again with both old and new students.

I’ve written a feature on micro yoga practices for the September edition of - little 5 minute practices that you can do any time, anywhere and make yourself feel a bit better. We don’t need to spend hours practicing yoga. We don’t need a fancy mat or snazzy leggings. This is just plain and simple yoga, the best kind. Go and grab yourself a copy - it’s a gorgeous magazine.

For those of you who don’t know, before I started teaching yoga, I worked a journalist, mainly writing about homes, interiors and design. I’ve just started writing again, now that my younger daughter is almost ready to go to school, and I was so excited to have my first article in The Sunday Telegraph this weekend. So for those of you who are interested in all things interiors, I have a new Instagram, and I’d love it if you would like to follow me there.

Why practice yoga in pregnancy?
Obviously I think that it makes you feel amazing!!! But there is so much more to it than that. Here are just some of the reasons.
1. It will connect you to your body. It is so easy to get stuck in your head, caught up in thoughts and anxieties. Pregnancy yoga movement connects you to your body, giving you an opportunity to feel grounded and present. This means that when you move your body, you will move it with kindness and respect. You’l learn to move in a way that feels good. No forcing, no shape making, just beautiful and mindful movement.
2. It will connect you to your baby. It is surprisingly easy to forget you are pregnant, to get caught up in whatever you are doing or thinking about. Taking the time to slow down, breathe, listen and connect inwards helps you to bond with your baby and enjoy your pregnancy.
3. It will connect you to your breath, aka your superpower. You could go a whole day without noticing your breath. But spend a few moments focussing on it, gently shaping it - and the results will stay with you for hours. Practicing breathing practices in pregnancy helps with anxiety, fear and gives you incredibly powerful tools to use in labour. It still continues to blow my mind - that something as simple as a breathing practice can help carry you through hours of labour, and more than that, make you feel like a total warrior. It is incredibly empowering.

Women know how to birth babies. We just need to be reminded of that, supported in it, and given the confidence to connect to ourselves.

How we move is how we do everything. By connecting breath and movement, we move in a way that is connected to ourselves, in a way that feels good, in a way that is nourishing. When your movement comes from a list of instructions in your head, there is a tendency to push, to force, to move in unhelpful ways. Connecting breath and movement...it’s magic....
