You can hear the laughter in this pic, can’t you? 😂🎙️

We had the absolute best time recording with the brilliant Sydney Graves aka - midwife, and social media influencer

This is Part 1 of a juicy two-part episode, and it’s coming your way very soon.
Think: honest chat, big laughs, behind-the-scenes realities of birth work in the age of social media. You’re not ready 👀

✨ Wanna know what had us in stitches? I’ll drop a clip tomorrow - don’t miss it

The problem isn’t just in maternity care- it’s in the culture we’ve created.

There’s been a lot of talk in the media recently about maternity scandals: bullying, coercion, and the deep-rooted issues within our system. As a midwife, I’ve witnessed it and experienced it. As a patient, I’ve experienced it.

In an upcoming podcast episode, I’ll be sharing some of my own stories - raw, honest, and uncomfortable - because I believe when women speak up, we’re louder. And when we’re louder, we drive change. I’ve taken those experiences - both the upset and the insight- and used them as fuel to build something different. A space where women and midwives are truly supported. A platform grounded in education, empowerment, and respect. Because we deserve better - and we can create better

But for now, here’s what I want to say:
We’ve created a system where people are no longer allowed to have opinions. And when people believe they can’t have an opinion, they start to believe they can’t have a choice either.

We’ve been quietly conditioned - by ‘the big companies and the institutions’. We’re told what to eat, what to take, how to give birth, and how to behave. We’re sold the illusion of choice, when in reality, we’re often being managed through coercion and fear

Midwife Under Pressure: A Story of Survival and Strength

In this powerful and deeply personal conversation, our guest Midwife Millar (Lara Basini-Millar) opens up about workplace bullying, trauma, and the strength it took to keep going.

What a morning! 🎙️ Just wrapped an episode of Just a Sharp Scratch: The Extra Dose with the remarkable - mother, multi award‑winning ex midwife, passionate health advocate, and TED Talk powerhouse, now leading vital hygiene initiatives at WaterAid Zambia. 🌍

We dove deep into conversations about change, empowerment, and inspiring the next generation of health professionals, and I can promise you this episode is packed with wisdom, heart, and a whole lot of hands‑on energy (you know I can’t help myself- I talk with my hands every chance I get! 🙌).

Huge thanks to Kachusha for sharing her voice and her vision. This is one of those conversations that reminds you why we do this- why we ask questions, why we listen, and why we keep showing up. Stay tuned… this one’s worth a listen🎧

✈️ Huge thanks to the fabulous Sydney () for joining us on this morning’s episode of “Just a Sharp Scratch – The Extra Dose”! 🎙️✨

What a treat it was to have her on – packed with top tips for anyone thinking about making the move to Australia, some fascinating insights comparing practice in Australia vs UK, and of course a load of laugh-out-loud stories thrown in for good measure! 😂👏

Honestly? Up there with one of our best guests to date 🙌 – we talked for so long it’s going to have to be another two‑part special (good luck to our editing team! 🙈✂️). This episode is equal parts helpful, fascinating, and an absolute giggle!

Keep your eyes peeled for the release -
trust us, it will be a good one 👀🩺🎧

I absolutely loved recording this episode- it felt like midwifery at its core, at its very heart. It’s exactly why so many of us became midwives in the first place.

Alyssa’s approach to midwifery is kind, thoughtful, supportive, and relaxed. She cares for women and their families from head to toe, from the inside out - in the way most midwives aspire to. The underlying message she shared is such an important one: pregnancy and birth are natural, physiological processes that mostly go smoothly, and only occasionally require medical intervention.

Midwifery is about being gentle, calm, and truly present with women and their families -and if we had the resources and space to really slow down, it could transform outcomes for so many.

If you’re a student midwife or a newly qualified midwife, I highly recommend listening to this episode. It’s for everyone, but especially for those starting out on their journey.

Breastfeeding has always been close to my heart - not only as a midwife and mother, but as someone who deeply believes in the power of education to drive change.

For too long, misinformation and stigma have clouded the conversation around infant feeding. I’ve seen firsthand how transformative evidence-based support can be - not just for mothers, but for entire families.

This is one of the driving forces behind the creation of MidwifeX

Launching next month, MidwifeX is a digital midwifery platform designed to inform, support, and empower. Our app will offer accessible, research-backed education and feeding guidance for all families, wherever they are on their journey. As well as offering instant support from trusted midwives

We are on a mission to shift the narrative - to replace pressure with support, confusion with clarity, and stigma with strength.

I will continue to be a loud, unapologetic advocate for informed feeding choices and maternal wellbeing.

If you believe in this vision too, I’d love your support:
✅ Follow our page .ai
✅Share it with your communities
✅ Help us ensure that every family, no matter where they are, has access to the care they deserve.

Because when we empower mothers with the right knowledge, we change everything - not just for today, but for generations to come.

I’ve received response to my complaint about their breastfeeding segment - yet it felt more like a justification than a genuine apology.

Why was Karen Millen’s misinformation left unchallenged? This highlights a much deeper issue: when discussing topics that directly affect women and children, it’s essential to have qualified professionals present - those who can offer evidence-based, research-led insight.

I want to be clear that open conversations are valuable, but when misinformation is shared publicly, it must be addressed in the moment. The fact that it wasn’t only reinforces the need for professionals who can speak with authority, challenge harmful narratives, and ensure the public receives accurate information.
