THE BIG DEBATE…
Although for many, this isn’t a debate at all — it’s lived experience.
Do you have a neurodivergent child — ADHD, autism, or similar — and have you chosen to home-educate, or faced challenges within the school system such as bullying, anxiety, depression, self-harm, emotional shutdown, or burnout — particularly as puberty begins?
Or perhaps you are neurodivergent — diagnosed, self-identified, or still questioning — and remember the struggle of school: masking to fit in, constant overwhelm, sensory overload, difficulty focusing, staying still, or pushing through environments that didn’t match how your brain works. For many, these challenges intensified during puberty, when hormonal changes, social pressure, and emotional sensitivity amplified everything. Maybe those patterns didn’t end at school and still show up in adulthood — at work or in daily life.
Has your child’s diagnosis ever brought clarity to your own childhood experiences?
For some parents, supporting a neurodivergent child has quietly confirmed long-held suspicions — moments of recognition, relief, grief, or deep compassion for a younger version of themselves who never had the language or support at the time.
We would genuinely love to hear your experiences and views.
With many schools under immense pressure and often unable to fully meet neurodivergent needs, the mental-health cost can be significant — particularly during adolescence — including increased risks of anxiety, depression, burnout, and suicidality. By sharing stories, we help others feel less alone and create space for understanding what meaningful, compassionate support really looks like.
Please feel free to share your experiences here — together, these conversations matter.
We’re also developing a podcast series exploring these themes through real voices and lived experience. If you’d like to be involved or share your story, let us know — you’d be very welcome.
Please be respectful — this is a sensitive topic and experiences will differ. Let’s listen with openness, care, and kindness.
Thank you 💙
