By Eck, In't Yorkshire Grand!

I attended the Deliciously Yorkshire awards last night in Harrogate. Really great event, shouting loudly about the amazing companies and people who work it the hospitality, entertainment, food supply and production in Yorkshire.

As an Honorary Yorkshireman (only been here 11 years). It lifts my spirits to see such a diverse array of companies and people making such a massive impact not only Yorkshire but nationally and internationally.

We sat on one of the sponsors tables Verner Wheelock Associates. They were great hosts and it was a real pleasure to see owner and director Alison Wheelock at the event, along with Claire Lennon also from VWA.

I went with my amazing wife Sarah McCaughan, and her business partner Richard Wood from Coffee Care. Who narrowly missed out on an award last night. I'm sure they will win next year, because they are amazing.

However, we were not disappointed! We were also with Bruce Elsworth owner and founder of Elsworth at the Mill who won "Best use of Local Food on a Menu" Cracking effort and well deserved. His wife Rebecca Elsworth couldn't be there, but top chef Daniel Sadler was also in attendance.

I was sitting on a table of people who have started and run companies that support the local economy, create employment, and bring excellent goods and services to the people they serve. They all do this a passion and drive that is inspiring. Made me feel proud to be almost a Yorkshireman.

Thanks again to VWA, and well done to Elsworth at the Mill, and Coffee Care, you are all just brilliant!

Gut Health and Mens Health!

Bruce Elsworth from Elsworth at the Mill along with Daniel and Casper to see Dr Tim Spector talk about his new book on gut health. Really fascinating talk at Ilkley Kings Hall.

Dr Spector talked about the gut brain axis and how important looking after our gut is for your general health.

What we eat is more important than just energy and weight management. Dr Tim Spector talked about Fermented foods and how they provide good bacteria. Also he talked about how historically they were way of preserving food, the original fridge freezer!

we took the opportunity to look after our men's health by fostering good connectuons over good food at Pranzo Italian restaurant.

Brighton Rock!

Attending the British Society of Lifestyle Medicine Conference in Brighton. lots of amazing speakers. Notably the chief executive of the Royal College of Nursing talking about how we need to focus on the patient and not limit our impact by defensive practices that limit patient recovery.

The late Dr Michael Mosley's son Dr Jack Mosley with a heart felt talk on how his father demystified health and wellness, and made it accessible to all.

For me the highlight was the opportunity to catch up with my uncle the brilliant Danny Emery founder of Newquay Osteopaths Ltd who also attended the conference. Proving the pillar of lifestyle medicine about connecting with others (family friends and new friends) is so important. The other pillars of diet, exercise, sleep, mental wellbeing, obviously are key but catching up with family I see so rarely was bloody amazing.

Had an amazing day at Kongsberg Automotive yesterday presenting with Tom Bayliss from Commando Mindset Fitness Studio in Skipton and Bruce Elsworth from Elsworth at the Mill. Huge thanks to Debra Godridge MCIPD who organised the Health and Safety day at their site and for the warm welcome and support from all the staff who attended.
Our Nurse-Chef-Commando presentation touches all aspects of wellness, with insights and demonstrations from Bruce about how food and eating is more than just fuel. His extensive background as an award winning chef helps to delve deeper into how food affects us all. Also touching on the minefield that social media presents to us on a daily basis about making good choices.
Tommy from Commando Mindset in Skipton gave a very personal insight into how the Royal Marine Mindset is not just about being super-fit but how the skills are transferable into everyday life, and it's not just about going to a gym but being part of something. His gym in Skipton is set up around these values - and that's why it is so successful.
I delivered a talk on just how amazing the body is and how we deal with stress is paramount in the modern busy world we live in.
Thank you again to all who organised and attended. We learnt as much as you did by being present yesterday.
