That’s right, men can get breast cancer too. Everyone has breast tissue and can be susceptible to breast cancer.

Research from Cancer Research UK suggests that approximately 390 men in the UK get primary breast cancer every year. It's really important that men feel comfortable checking themselves regularly and know to talk to their GP about any symptoms or changes they experience.

Five years ago, The Men’s Virtual Meet-up (VMU) was set up as an online space where men can talk openly and share their experiences with other men - to know that although breast cancer in men is unusual, they are not alone.

Today, the VMU celebrate their 5 year anniversary and we’re encouraging men living with primary and secondary breast cancer to join up: https://www.themensvmu.org

Next week is Men’s Breast Cancer Awareness Week so we’ll be sharing stories and highlighting information specifically for men living with secondary breast cancer.

Fellas, this is for you 💪

- Want to get out on a regular, weekly walk and be more active?
- Want to meet some like-minded blokes and make new friends?
- Feeling a bit down, overwhelmed, anxious, depressed?
- Struggling to know where to turn or who to talk to?
- Need to talk to someone, but not sure who, where?

Come for a walk with us 🙌

🔹️ We walk every Monday, 6.30pm, from the Harold Wilson statue

This Monday (6th Oct) is the first Monday of the month, so it's social night, and therefore we'll be heading for a drink and a bite to eat after the walk at The Sportsman Beerhouse.

If you fancy joining us for a drink and a chat, whether you come on the walk or not, we'll be there at about 7.40pm, just ask for Steve, or ask at the bar to find where we are 🙂

Most importantly, if you feel like you need to talk to someone, take the first step and pick up the phone, speak to your loved ones, or get yourself to a group like ours. Get talking!

See you at the statue 💪💙

Slaithwaite Health Centre Fundraises for The Care Workers Charity

On Friday, 19th September, Slaithwaite Health Centre proudly participated in a fundraising initiative in support of The Care Workers Charity. The event was thoughtfully organised by Vicky, our dedicated Carers Champion, and featured a variety of engaging activities including a raffle, homemade cakes, a “guess the number of sweets in the jar” competition, and a selection of informative leaflets covering topics such as dementia, prostate cancer, breast cancer, and support for carers.

Vicky worked tirelessly to engage with businesses across the Colne Valley, who responded with remarkable generosity by donating a wide array of prizes for the raffle.

Thanks to the collective efforts of our team and the local community, we successfully raised £344.61, which will be donated directly to The Care Workers Charity to support their vital work.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the local businesses who kindly contributed raffle prizes—your support made this event a true success:

Taking time for ourselves is a really important part of self-care. One way to switch off from the demands of day-to-day life is by using relaxation exercises. 👣
Relaxation allows physical and/or mental tension to be released. Learning to relax takes practise, as with learning any new skill. It’s a great way to to help us unwind and bring our tensions and anxiety under control.💙
It’s a good idea to practise regularly so we can be more prepared for the more stressful times. Below is an example of a relaxation exercise for you to try.
