The summer is quickly coming to end with wet weather on the way, according to the Met Office.
Low pressure is now moving in signalling rain and wind for the days ahead as the UK moves towards early autumn with a lot of rain forecast for the first two weeks in September.
It means the risk of flooding will be high with the rain landing on dry ground, not soaking in and so putting homes and businesses at risk.
Met Office Chief Meteorologist Steve Willington said: “Meteorological summer is ending on a wet and windy note for many with low pressure the dominant force for the UK’s weather.
“While many areas may welcome some rain after fairly prolonged dry weather, there’s a potential that over the next few days some parts of Wales, northwest England and western Scotland could see some impacts at times, which we’ll be keeping an eye on.”
A spell of more persistent and heavy rain is forecast on Saturday as an area of low pressure moves in from the southwest and tracks north-eastwards close to the UK. Accompanying this heavy rain will be some strong winds, particularly along coasts.
According to the Met Office: “Changeable and unsettled weather conditions are expected across the UK with low pressure systems tending to dominate the overall pattern. This will mean showers or longer spells of rain will affect the majority of the UK at times.
“Some heavy rain or showers are expected in places, most often in the west. Thunderstorms and hail are also possible, as are some spells of strong winds if any deep areas of low pressure form in the vicinity of the UK.”
