🐴 January Reset: Preparing Your Horse for Work After the Winter Slowdown ❄️

As an equine massage practitioner, January is one of my favourite times to work with horses. After a quieter December—reduced workload, less turnout, colder weather—it’s very common for horses to feel a little stiff, tight, or unbalanced as we start asking more of them again.

This is where massage and mobilisation can make a real difference.

✨ Benefits of Equine Massage in January

Helps release muscle tension built up during periods of reduced movement
Encourages healthy circulation to cold, tight muscles
Supports relaxation and comfort, helping horses feel more at ease as work resumes
Aids overall muscle elasticity, making the body more responsive to training
🔄 Why Mobilisation Matters Gentle joint and soft‑tissue mobilisation supports:

Improved range of motion
Better symmetry and balance through the body
Easier transitions back into schooling, hacking, or competition work
Early identification of areas that may need extra support before training intensity increases
Think of it as a reset and preparation, not just a treatment. Massage and mobilisation help your horse start the new year feeling looser, more comfortable, and physically ready to build strength again—rather than compensating or carrying tension forward.

If your horse is coming back into work this month, investing in bodywork now can support smoother training, better performance, and happier movement long‑term.

💬 Feel free to message me to chat about how massage could support your horse this winter.

✨🎓 Meet a Wolds Graduate 🎓✨
Hello Everyone,
As a passionate advocate for equine health and wellbeing, my focus is always on the horse in front of me. Every treatment is tailored to support their comfort, mobility, and overall happiness. I graduated from Wolds Equine in May 2025 and have since dedicated myself to combining knowledge, skill, and empathy to help horses feel and perform at their best.
Currently, I work full-time in the NHS as a Clinical Pharmacy Technician and Community Pharmacy Project Manager, but with changes ahead in early 2026, I’m excited to grow my equine massage practice. My goal is simple: to provide horses and ponies with the highest standard of care while supporting owners with practical advice and exercise programmes that complement treatment—because a happy, healthy horse benefits everyone.
I’ve already completed CPD training, including a Therapeutic Ultrasound course, which allows me to integrate this modality alongside hands-on massage for enhanced results. Being fully insured gives owners peace of mind, knowing their horse is in safe, professional hands.
Equine therapy is a lifelong learning journey. Horses are incredible communicators—they tell us what works and what doesn’t if we take the time to listen. Every session is an opportunity to learn from them and apply evidence-based techniques that respect their individuality.
Looking ahead to 2026, I plan to expand my reach through social media, local events, and further training in physiotherapy and rehabilitation. I also hope to get out more with my ex-racehorse, Dougie, who has been my greatest teacher (and occasional critic!) as I refine new techniques.
I’m based in Lincolnshire but happy to travel further afield for yard visits. If you’d like to discuss how massage and therapy can support your horse’s wellbeing, please get in touch—I’d love to help your horse feel their best.

About Me 🐎
I thought it was time I introduced myself properly, as you will have noticed a few posts popping up from R.M.H Equine Bodywork

My name is Rachael and this venture has been a year in the making ❤️ finally completing one part of a very grand plan that has been a few years in the making

I am far too close to 40 to be considering a career change but what’s life if you don’t push yourself to the extremes

My children are self sufficient at 16 & 12 with the 16 year old being grown up and already working in a job that takes him away for weeks at a time… farming is his life following in the footsteps of his Great-grandad who is 95 and always on hand to offer advice and a story about the good old days.
The 12 year old has moved from ponies to motocross after declaring 2 years ago that he had ‘completed’ his horse riding career like it was some form of Xbox game - I am still convinced motocross is more important expensive than horses and this is a constant argument in our house 🏍️ sadly we appear to have far more motorbikes than horses for my liking.

By day I have a grown up job working for the Integrated Care Board as a Senior Clinical Pharmacy Technician with a side or Project Management, my focus is on Medication Safety in Lincolnshire and trying to promote this across the system.

I have worked in Pharmacy since I left school where my first job led me to the village pharmacy and kick started what would be a very long a varied career spanning Community Pharmacy, Hospital Pharmacy, Prison Pharmacy and Governance based Pharmacy.
I can still be found in the prisons on a weekend working for the substance misuse teams… just to keep my hand in actual clinical practice 💊

Follow on for the next installment of this is my life… we will touch on my horse obsession that spans some 35+ years…. Before we move onto the Equine Bodywork story highlighting the amount of work, study, exams and qualifications that have gone into creating the business

🐎 Limited Appointments Available 🐎
⭐️ Is your horse feeling tight?
⭐️ Has the hard ground had a negative impact on your horse’s usual way of going?
⭐️ Is your horse moving slightly off to normal?

They could be holding tension through their body and needing a routine sports massage treatment.

Just like we know ourselves our bodies can protest from time to time (or all the time) and need support from a qualified bodywork professional your horse would benefit from regular bodywork treatments to keep them feeling supple and working in a positive manner ensuring they feel their best.

Message me to discuss dates and to get booked in
