📖 Understanding Menopause: A–Z Glossary

Each week, we’re sharing a few common medical terms you might hear when talking about menopause or early menopause with your healthcare professional. Clear, simple definitions to help you feel more informed and confident in your care.

This week’s terms:
🔹Libido – sexual desire
🔹Lignans – plant estrogens
🔹Local estrogen therapy – where estrogen treatment is delivered directly to the va**na. It’s a local estrogen treatment and is not absorbed throughout the body. It can be in the form of a ring, cream or
pessary that is inserted into the va**na.

🌍 World Menopause Day 2025 🌿

This year, we’re focusing on Lifestyle Medicine in Menopause Care, exploring how evidence-based lifestyle approaches can support women’s health and wellbeing through menopause and beyond.

Proven lifestyle strategies and clinical treatments are available to ease menopause symptoms, protect long-term health, and improve quality of life. Yet too many women still face silence, stigma, and barriers to the information and care they need.

To help close this gap, the International Menopause Society (IMS) has created a new series of factsheets based on the IMS White Paper, The Role of Lifestyle Medicine in Menopausal Health: A Review of Non-Pharmacologic Interventions (2025).

Each factsheet shares clear, practical information on one of the six key areas of lifestyle medicine - healthy eating, physical activity, mental wellbeing, avoidance of risky substances, restorative sleep, and healthy relationships.

🥗 This factsheet focuses on Healthy Eating in Midlife & Menopause, showing how nutrition influences body composition, heart and bone health, and overall wellbeing.

At IMS, we are pressing for inclusive, evidence-based, and accessible menopause care for all women, regardless of geography, ethnicity, socio-economic background, or healthcare setting.
