🌍 World Menopause Day 2025 🌿

This year, we’re focusing on Lifestyle Medicine in Menopause Care, exploring how evidence-based lifestyle approaches can support women’s health and wellbeing through menopause and beyond.

Proven lifestyle strategies and clinical treatments are available to ease menopause symptoms, protect long-term health, and improve quality of life. Yet too many women still face silence, stigma, and barriers to the information and care they need.

To help close this gap, the International Menopause Society (IMS) has created a new series of factsheets based on the IMS White Paper, The Role of Lifestyle Medicine in Menopausal Health: A Review of Non-Pharmacologic Interventions (2025).

Each factsheet shares clear, practical information on one of the six key areas of lifestyle medicine - healthy eating, physical activity, mental wellbeing, avoidance of risky substances, restorative sleep, and healthy relationships.

πŸ₯— This factsheet focuses on Healthy Eating in Midlife & Menopause, showing how nutrition influences body composition, heart and bone health, and overall wellbeing.

At IMS, we are pressing for inclusive, evidence-based, and accessible menopause care for all women, regardless of geography, ethnicity, socio-economic background, or healthcare setting.

October is and Breast Cancer Awareness Month β€” the perfect time to think about risk reduction. According to Breast Cancer UK research:

β€’ Alcohol is classified as a β€œGroup 1 carcinogen” (i.e. known to cause cancer).
β€’ In the UK, an estimated 8 % of female breast cancer cases (around 4,400 annually) are linked to alcohol consumption.
β€’ Even light drinking (≀ 1 standard drink per week) is shown to increase breast cancer risk.
β€’ Compared to non-drinkers, up to 2 units/day β†’ ~9 % higher risk and 6+ units/day β†’ ~60 % higher risk

Working with a health coach trained in alcohol reduction can help you:

β€’ Set realistic, sustainable goals for reducing intake
β€’ Build strategies to cope with urges & social pressures
β€’ Monitor your progress & adjust your plan
β€’ Potentially lower your lifetime breast cancer risk

This October β€” even small reductions may be life-saving.
