This isn’t an “ Instagram worthy” photo but what it represents is TRULLY amazing …..
This represents an hour of shared time with a 12 year old, who quite frankly is amazing…who has so much to offer the world , yet is so unsure of the path she has before her, because the path she has already trodden, has been rather testing….
What I think is amazing is the representation of feelings, emotions and self understanding…. The ability to without realising, unfold and unpick each area of life, through the placement of pieces of wool…
For some young people, it’s hard to talk, so as the adults it’s our job to hold space, and interact with them, through observing, listening and following their lead…
When we follow the young person, the insight is quite honestly mind blowing….
These pieces of wool, held space for conversations around:
- friendships
- family relationships
- emotion based school avoidance
- self harm
- self worth
- sadness
- loss
To name just a few… however this has taken two weeks to unpick… what looks like mindless cutting of wool, led to conversation, care, kindness and building of a trusting partnership…we must never rush the process…
with the right space and nurturing, the journey will unfold in its own unique way for each young person
This may look messy, but to me it’s amazing what is represents, placed on the grubby school chair… this still sits ready for our next meeting, where I shall hold space and better understand this most amazing of souls ❤️
