Today is Blue Monday, known as the most challenging day of the year. If you have had a challenging day, that’s is ok, not everyday will be great, be kind and compassionate towards yourself. If you feel stressed or anxious there are a few things you can do to calm your nervous system. One is deep breathing, inhale for the count of 4, exhale for the count of 6 and do this 4 times. Our autonomic nervous system has two modes: sympathetic and parasympathetic. The sympathetic mode is actioned when you body senses a threat or danger causing you to go into fight, flight or freeze mode- depending upon which action is appropriate to save you from the threat. In these modes certain bodily functions will shut down, such as digestion, fertility, your breathing will increase and your muscles will tense in order to prepare your body to protect yourself against threat.

For example, if you were trapped in your house with a fire you may try to flight (run) to safety. If you were face to face with a tiger you may try to freeze (hide/stay still)

The parasympathetic mode is responsible for controlling your body’s responses at rest, helps aid digestion, you are happy and calm and engaging. All your bodily functions are working in sync together. When no threat is detected your body will be in parasympathetic mode.

However, these days we are faced with a lot of stress in our every day lives and this can cause your body to go into sympathetic mode and stay in that mode which causes health problems such as panic attacks, IBS, anxiety, constipation, high blood pressure, low immunity to name a few.

Hypnotherapy can be very effective at calming and relaxing to body and mind thus keeping our ANS in parasympathetic mode in non-emergency situations by helping us cope better with stress/trauma/threat.

✨Exciting news ✨

If like me, you’ve noticed changes in your sleep, mood, anxiety, confidence or relationship with food — you’re not imagining it.

Perimenopause and menopause can affect far more than hot flushes. Many women experience:

• Broken sleep
• Anxiety or low mood
• Brain fog & overwhelm
• Emotional eating
• Feeling “not like yourself”

From January, I’ll be undertaking specialist training in menopause-focused hypnotherapy, expanding the emotional wellbeing support I already offer to women.

Hypnotherapy can be a gentle way to calm the nervous system, improve sleep, reduce anxiety and help you feel more like you again.

I’ll be sharing more soon and opening spaces in the new year.

Did you know that a lot of our beliefs, habits and behaviours are learned through childhood. Self-confidence, how we perceive pain, how we cope with stressful situations, how we deal with anxiety, smoking, diet and lifestyle habits. Some of these beliefs and habits serve us well and are positive but on the flip side some are negative beliefs and habits resulting in negative behaviours. As much as we can learn beliefs and habits we can also ‘unlearn’ them especially if they are having a negative impact on our lives. For example, if you are constantly told you are stupid by your caregivers growing up, you will more than likely believe this to be true, which can stop you reachiyng for your goals. This is a negative learned belief and is something hypnotherapy can help change by reframing this belief into a positive one and giving you confidence and self worth that you can achieve your goals.
