And checking it all before it gets put back at the end of a shout often at 3am needs a bit of OCD!!

Ever wondered about the kit we take to our call outs? This is “Pauline” callsign 52, one of our Land Rovers, this one specifically used to carry kit and up to 4 team members. Amongst other things there’s 600m of rope and everything we need to evacuate even the most seriously injured casualty from anywhere on Dartmoor.

Cold Water Shock -if you take an unexpected dunk this summer -the water is still cold enough to cause you to gasp (unless you are used to cold water)
Aim to just float in a semi sitting position rather than try to swim until you 'get your breath back' that way you do not take in water while gasping.

I lost my son Cameron to cold water shock in July 2015 something we as a family knew nothing about , he was 14 fit, healthy and had his whole life ahead of him. I truly believe that had he had the educate on the real dangers in and around open water he'd still be here today

Even low level walking terrain can need a rescue team when medical care is needed - call 999 and ask for Police - Mountain Rescue.

Called out today by North West Ambulance Service and Cumbria Police to recover a casualty that had sadly died on the fells near Newby Bridge. Thirteen team members attended.
