👣 Verruca treatments at the clinic 👣
A verruca (also known as a plantar wart) is a type of wart that appears on the soles of the feet. It’s caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), which lives in the skin and is clever at hiding from your immune system, making it notoriously tricky to treat!
Many people believe verrucae have roots that can be pulled out, but that’s a myth. They don't have roots; rather, they grow within the skin layers, and how they respond to treatment depends on your immune response, how long the verruca has been present, and other individual factors.
🔍 At my clinic, I offer three effective treatment options for verrucae:
1. Scalpel Debridement
This is a simple procedure where I gently pare down the affected area using a sterile medical scalpel. The goal is to remove as much of the thickened, callused skin and viral tissue as possible.
✨ Why this helps: It reduces pain and pressure caused by the verruca and helps to stimulate the immune response, one of the best ways to tackle verrucae naturally. It won’t necessarily eliminate the virus, but it can support over the counter treatments and make the area more comfortable.
📅 Follow-up required: Every 4-6 weeks
2. Salicylic Acid & Zinc Oxide Tape
Following debridement, I apply salicylic acid, which works by slowly breaking down the infected skin. I then cover the area with zinc oxide tape, which you’ll continue to apply daily between appointments.
✨ Why this helps: This method has been clinically proven to be very effective, and it's usually the first line treatment I recommend to patients with verrucae.
📅 Follow-up: Every 2 weeks
3. Verrutop Treatment
Verrutop is a professional grade topical solution used specifically for stubborn or resistant verrucae. It contains a unique chemical combination that desiccates (dries out) the infected tissue, encouraging the body to naturally shed the wart.
✨ Why this helps: Verrutop is ideal for verrucae that haven’t responded to other treatments. It’s quick to apply in clinic and can start to show results within a few sessions.
📅 Follow-up: Every 2 weeks
💷 Additional fee: £15 per appointment (on top of your usual treatment fee)
