This morning we have created some wonderful art on the theme of butterflies.
Some residents chose to paint, others used felt tips and some added extra glitter onto their finished work. We can even use the Tiny Tablet to create works of art.
You can see the concentration on everybody's faces as they choose their colours and designs.
Everyone was pleased with the finished result - for some it was the first time they'd painted in ages and it reminded them of earlier times of painting with children or grandchildren as well as painting for their own pleasure.

On Monday we had the pleasure of the company of Mark Busell, playing his keyboard and our piano, entertaining us with his music and singing.
Mark creates a lovely calm atmosphere and when he plays you can see how his audience relax as they listen. He can also liven things up through the range of songs he performs.
It as a thoroughly enjoyable morning with many comments from residents about how much they enjoyed it.
Thank you Mark and see you again soon.

Last Saturday, lovely Rustyn George came to entertain us, singing and playing his guitar in his very fetching (and extremely bright) lime green braces and tie.
We always have great audience numbers when he comes to us and the ballroom lounge was crowded. He put on a fantastic show and we didn't even mind being slightly late for lunch.
As you can see from everyone's faces we joined in with the singing and became quite animated. Pete got up to dance as usual -he really enjoys getting up with staff to have a bit of a boogie.
I really am ging to have to get better at photography because all the photos of Rustyn are goofy - he's either got his eyes closed or they're blurred because he doesn't stop moving!

Here are the plans for next week. As always, they are subject to change at short notice and all times are approximate.

We've had a really busy week with lots of different things going on.

The week kicked off on Monday with a visit from Eddie Cole. As usual he regaled us with jokes and stories interspersed with songs for us to join in with. He's a lot of fun.

Our house was full on Tuesday for bingo, so we decided to have as many line winners as possible - we like lots of people to win!. As a result we have now run out of bingo prizes. If you have anything little that you could donate we would be very grateful. Bingo is very popular.

Wednesday was wildlife day. We visited a coral reef- mesmerising and relaxing - and then did a wild animal quiz. I think we might have learned more than we knew.

Thursday was baking day and we filled the home with the delicious scent of vanilla and coconut. The bakers all got a sneaky first taste - cooks' privilege of course - and there were enough to go around on the afternoon tea trolley for all the other residents.

On Friday we enjoyed the music of Buddy Holly and his pals Richie Valens and Big Bopper who all tragically lost their lives very young in a plane crash. So much of their music was the antiphon of our youth and we could all sing along. Jenny even had a little jig.

We have lovely Rustyn George in today to entertain us. Photos to follow.

Regretfully, due to unforeseen circumstances our hairdresser is unable to be with us until Tuesday 23rd September.

If you are able to take your family member out to a hairdresser in the meantime, just let us know that you have made an appointment.

Our carers will do their best to blow dry but none of us are hairdressers!

Feel free to use the salon facilities but let the activities team know if (and when) you wish to do this so we can ensure there are no clashes with the use of the space.

Many thanks for your understanding and cooperation.

This week we had a wonderful trip on Solent Dolphins Alison MacGregor.

This wonderful charity was started as a legacy by the parents of Alison MacGregor who sadly lost her life in the Clapham train disaster.
Run entirely by volunteers, it is a fantastic day out and is fully accessible for wheelchair users.

Starting with a fish and chips lunch on the benches in Hythe Marina, overlooking Southampton Water (eaten out of the paper with our fingers of course), the weather was dull and warm and the conditions were calm and smooth.

As usual the crew on board were amazing , telling us all about what we could see in the docks and into the mouth of the River Itchen.
We went past the temporary marina being constructed for the Southampton Boat Show, up past the Titanic Dock and as far as where the Sutherland Flying Boats used to moor up.

We were grateful for hot chocolate - yes, in August - and biscuits on board.

Sharon and Angela both got to pilot the boat which is always thrilling.

We have two more trips planned in September, so let us know if your relative would like to come.

This week lovely Karen Barnett - Vocalist visited to entertain us with her singing.

She had a wide and varied set list with a little bit for everyone, including some uplifting 1940s songs to celebrate VJ day.

There's always loads to sing along to -The Beatles went down very well, as did John Denver. If the photos show residents pulling funny faces, its because I've caught them singing!

Cliff Richard as always got us up and dancing.

We love a bit of Tom Jones Delilah to finish. We can really belt that on out. I must put it on our karaoke list...

Thankfully Helen (one of our wonderful chefs) didn't mind us being a little bit late for lunch as we didn't want Karen to stop.

We have some wonderful new raised beds in the courtyard garden - waist height and V-shaped so that residents can sit at them and plant flowers...herbs...vegetables.

At the moment they are planted up with some late summer flowering plants and look very colourful. We need to be patient now and wait for them to fill up the spaces.

It's a lovely quiet space to go and sit. There is seating and usually one side or the other is in shade.

You are very welcome to make use of it.

And if anyone can lift a watering can and do a little watering to help the young plants along, it would be very much appreciated, especially as I have some holiday coming up!
