URGENT NOTICE

Urgent notice for anyone intending to visit Colbury House Nursing home today, Friday 30th January 2026.

This is to let everyone know that once again, Hillstreet has been closed for roadworks. The diversion as before is via Ridge.

Apologies to you all, but we had no notification of this.

If anyone wishes to complain to Hampshire County Council about the road closure and about the unsafe diversion, here is a link.

https://www.hants.gov.uk/transport/highways/report-a-problem/road-works-closure

Several member of staff have done this as we have suffered damage to our vehicles.

There are large potholes on the diversion and there are large drop-offs on the verges. Please consider delaying your visit until the road is open or drive with extreme care if you need to visit today.

Unfortunately we have no details of times or dates of on-going closures.

The roadworks are being carried out by CIRCET on behalf of Openreach. Their emergency telephone number is 0800 085 9194.

The Hampshire County Council permit number is BC412-HAROSAFB246037-04.
It is the County Council who issue permits for the traffic management and diversion.

Report an issue with roadworks or a road closure to Hampshire County Council

We've had a very busy day so far.

After our morning exercises we started up our Choir Club, we began by doing some warm up vocal exercises. We started with the following tongue twister!!!

Six slippery snails slid silently, we tried this 3 times!!

We then followed with the Doh Ray Me scale.

Our first song was 'Sweet Caroline', we listened to the song first and then tried singing it, we tried to decide who would sing 'Lows, Middles and Highs, we sung it 3 times but we're still not sure who is suited to what.

We then went on to sing 'Singing in the Rain' and '(Is This The Way To) Amarillo,' we tried to get into different groups to sing different parts of the song but I think we need a bit more practice!!!

This afternoon we have chosen 'Singing In the Rain' as our Saturday afternoon film.

Have a lovely weekend.

We have had a very busy couple of weeks at Colbury House Nursing Home.
We've celebrated birthdays for Maureen, Sandra and Margaret at the end of December, and for Kath and Dennis in January. We say that Christmas is for everyone, but everyone deserves their own special day to be celebrated.
Kath's family had arranged to use our quiet lounge for a family party. It was lovely to see everyone get together and listen to the children playing. It made her feel very special.
If you would like to do this for any occasion, please let a member of the activity team or management know.
We commemorated the feast of the Epiphany on 6th January by making and eating a Galette des Rois to recall the visit of the Wise Men (or 3 Kings) to the infant Jesus.
Eddie Cole came and entertained us with his usual fun show of songs, stories and banter.
We tasted delicious shortbread (not baked by me, I'm sad to say). Our favourite flavour was Columbian Coffee, closely followed by West Country Clotted Cream.
Lots of residents joined us to play Bingo and our lucky winners were Martin, Dennis and Pat F.
For 'Veganuary' we tickled resident's tastebuds with a rainbow of fruit - very yummy.
Our regular exercise sessions have resumed, not so much to work off the excess Christmas calories but to maintain mobility, balance and flexibility.

Please note that we have been given prior notice of temporary works to be carried out on Hillstreet from 19th January for 8 days.

During this time we are asked not to park on verges or in lay-byes.

The signage states "road closure" so like all good Boy Scouts, be prepared!

Living with dementia is a challenge for everyone experiencing it, including families.

You are invited to attend this informative Dementia Awareness Presentation on Saturday 24th January, 2pm -3pm.

Learn about the different forms of dementia, how this might present and develop an understanding to support your loved one.

It will be a safe space to ask questions and get support from our nurses here at Colbury House Nursing Home and other families on the same journey.

Yesterday, the liquidiser (or liquidator as I called it) worked overtime as we made and tasted a delicious pear smoothie. I couldn't keep up with the demand. With the addition of banana, honey and a dash of cinnamon, we decided it would make a tasty breakfast treat.

What a joy to have a visit just before Christmas from our very own " Little Donkey" Charlie.

He was a huge hit with all of our residents and incredibly well behaved -apart from spying a piece of cake that had only just been put on a table for a resident, and before you could say "Jack Robinson", it was gone, demolished in one mouthful. I'm sure I saw Charlie the Donkey smile, feeling very pleased with himself.
It certainly caused lots of laughter in the lounge. Audrey wasn't so impressed until we brought her more cake, with Charlie at a safe distance this time!
