Hi Im Catherine.
I’m Catherine the founder of Relating to You. I hold a BA (Hons) in Literature, Life and Thought from Liverpool John Moore’s University (1998), Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling from CPCAB (2005) and a Postgraduate Certificate in Therapeutic Play Skills from Canterbury Christ Church University (2010). My background in both counselling and literature reflects a lifelong curiosity about people — our stories, emotions, and the ways we make meaning from our experiences. Over the years, I’ve supported individuals through a range of emotional and relational challenges, always guided by empathy, respect, and the belief that real change begins with self-understanding.
My professional counselling journey began at Relate South Essex, where I worked full-time from 2005 to 2010 as a Counsellor, Supervisor, and Project Leader. During that time, I supported individuals and couples through a wide range of emotional and relational challenges, gaining deep insight into the ways connection, communication, and empathy shape our wellbeing.
Between 2011 and 2014, alongside raising my young family, I worked part-time at Ambleside Community College as an Adult Tutor and Verifier for counselling courses. It was an incredibly rewarding experience — supporting trainee counsellors and helping to nurture new voices in the profession.
After the birth of my two children in 2010 and 2014, I took a step back from full-time practice to focus on family life. Those years brought a different kind of learning — about patience, identity, and balance — lessons that have since deepened my empathy and understanding as a counsellor.
In 2020, I returned to practice with renewed perspective and energy. Since then, I’ve worked with IAPTUS clients, private clients, and health insurance providers, supporting people through times of change, uncertainty, and personal growth.
My aim is to build a community around wellness and make mental health care accessible, supportive, and holistic through professional counselling, connection and accountability support calls and self-help resources.
