These photos give a little taste of what Ayurveda looks like in real life🌿 You’ll see colourful, nourishing foods used to balance the doshas and support vibrant health, beautiful nature (the ultimate way to stay grounded) and a sunrise yoga session on the beach in Kerala – the true birthplace of Ayurveda. There’s even a snap of amla, or Indian gooseberry; a natural powerhouse and amazing source of vitamin C often used in Ayurvedic supplements!
Before I continue, let me explain what Ayurveda actually is…
The literal translation of Ayurveda is the Science of Life, which isn’t a particularly helpful explanation. It’s more the consciousness of optimal living, with self care at the heart of its aim, nurturing body, mind and spirit - living in balance
🌿 Ayurveda is one of the oldest forms of healthcare and medicine. It began over 5000 years ago in India, and is continuing to develop, with a resurgence of popularity to complement Western medicine. Clinical research has shown 80% of diseases are down to poor lifestyle choices, and only 20% are genetic. That’s a pretty profound statistic don’t you think!
In this fast paced world it can often seem daunting to find time for yourself, to eat healthily, exercise, meditate etc but if you don’t look after yourself, sooner or later your body will give you a warning sign that things need to change.
We were born with a unique constitution, your dosha, a blueprint of your body’s needs. If your dosha is in balance you will maintain health, but if out of balance then your dosha lays the foundations of disease.
Ayurveda is just a wonderful way of taking us back to how we are designed to live, it’s impossible to cover in just one post - in fact it’s a life long learning process, so this is a very basic introduction. We’ll be exploring more about the doshas and all things Ayurveda in future posts, so make sure you’re following my account to find out more...♥️
