Got a Teenage Dog with Big Energy?

If your adolescent dog feels like they have two speeds — asleep or full on — you’re not alone.

High-energy teenagers aren’t “naughty.” They’re enthusiastic, curious, impulsive, and still learning how to live in our world. This 4-week small-group course is designed to channel that energy into skills that make everyday life easier.

Tuesday 10th March at 11.30am in Bexhill

The Real-Life Outcomes Pet Parents Are Looking For:

🐾 Energy You Can Work With — Not Against
Instead of constant chaos, you’ll learn how to direct your dog’s drive into focus, cooperation, and calm choices.

🐾 Focus in Busy Indoor Spaces
A dog who can think around other dogs, new smells, and movement — without bouncing off the walls.

🐾 Better Self-Control (Even When Excited)
Less jumping, mouthing, pulling, and impulsive behaviour — more pause, check-in, and thoughtful responses.

🐾 A Reliable Recall Foundation
Because high-energy dogs need freedom — and freedom comes from responsiveness.

🐾 Loose-Lead Walking Without the Battle
Turning walks from a workout into a partnership.

🐾 The Off-Switch
One of the most overlooked skills for active dogs: learning how to settle, relax, and regulate arousal indoors.

🐾 Mental Stimulation That Actually Tires Them Out
Training that engages their brain — because physical exercise alone isn’t enough for driven adolescent dogs.

🐾 A Stronger Working Relationship
Clear communication, better timing, and practical tools so you feel confident handling your dog in real life.

Why a Structured Indoor Environment?

High-energy dogs don’t need more chaos — they need:

- Clear structure

- Thoughtful exposure

- Managed distances

- Achievable challenges

- Support when they struggle

In our small group setting, we prioritise success. That means working at the right intensity for each dog so they can learn, not just react. Adolescence doesn't need to be something you struggle through, build reliable responses for the future.

A soggy visit to the park on the first day of March! We met lots of lovely dogs & their guardians. I can't help but watch how dogs move & I see so many with "issues" that their guardians may not even be aware of. If you'd like your dog to have an assessment please get in touch - no obligation. Don't they all deserve to be comfortable & pain free?

Tink says he's bored with this horrid weather! We're getting too many days like this, but it's a good opportunity to set up an "enriched environment". Which is a bit like a doggy playground. Full of things to rip up and poke his nose into, step over and sniff. Not to mention a few treats along the way! Great mental and physical exercise. Find out more, ask me.

As a Galen Myotherapist I look at your dog as a whole, not just at the issue that may have brought you to me. We "unwind" the dog. The main place of pain is not where we start treatment. We begin where they are compensating. These are the areas that are working harder because of the discomfort or pain elsewhere. We use the unique Galen "Comfort Scale" to help us to find out how, what, when, where and why! Once you've experienced Galen Myotherapy you will have a whole new perspective on your dog and how he/she lives and moves!

“Our nervous dog has been much less reactive towards other dogs, the longer lead helps to reduce the tension and we are able to get her attention more easily to do an activity with us.
Her confidence is increasing around things that she was worried about, she will tentatively approach to investigate and is gradually becoming braver.”
This is lovely progress. 🐾

There is an excellent article in Edition Dog magazine Issue 88 "The Emotional Cost of Chronic Pain". It talks about "cumulative depletion". The dog's illness/condition is being "managed" but there are subtle signs that he/she is deteriorating. In chronic pain management wellbeing is not measured by what a dog can still do, but by how much it costs them to do it. Recognising this helps guardians interpret these quieter signals with compassion and recognising the difference can change how success is defined, perhaps from quantity to quality.
Made me think. Our precious dogs communicate some things so clearly, yet other things.............or maybe we should work harder at seeing & listening ❤️

Picture this: a quiet room, with gentle music playing, no noise or distractions. Just one person focused on you, listening to you, watching your body language to make sure you feel safe and comfortable. You can relax in any position you choose, sofa or floor, or soft mat with your blanket. The person touches your body gently, all over. But they keep watching your eyes to make sure you are relaxing & happy with the sensations you feel. Then they press deeper to ease out the areas that twinge. They know exactly where to press and how hard, not too hard. You feel yourself drifting off to sleep...............................
I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but this is me treating your DOG !

Raising your dog's food bowl can be more comfortable for them. It can also reduce the risk of bloat and can help protect their neck, spine, back muscles, joints & reduce stress on their forelegs.
Ask me how high.
