We’ve been lucky enough to enjoy some truly memorable activities over the past week:

🦎 ZooLab: Our residents met some incredible creatures, from an albino snake to a tarantula and a gecko! Everyone showed great bravery, and it was fascinating to learn about these animals with Chris.

🦅 The Raptor Foundation: Elliot and his beautiful birds captured everyone’s hearts. Residents were full of questions, and Elliot even visited rooms to make sure no one missed out on the experience.

🎶 The Northeast Producers: Their show “Memories Are Made of This” reminded us that every memory has its own soundtrack. Music truly helps keep memories alive and brings back treasured moments.

These activities aren’t just fun—they are vital for wellbeing. Engaging with animals, music, and live demonstrations stimulates the mind, encourages social interaction, and brings joy and connection to everyday life. Our residents leave with smiles, laughter, and memories to cherish✨

Our Summer Fair was a fantastic afternoon — the sun shone brightly, and our gardens were full of laughter, music, and community spirit✨
(Even if one gust of wind tried to blow us all away!)

We enjoyed browsing the brilliant community stalls, tapping our feet, singing and dancing to the wonderful Brian J, whose sing-along songs had everyone smiling 🎵 A raffle, huge tombola, ‘Guess the name of the Unicorn’, and a visit from the ice cream man made the afternoon even sweeter! 🍦✨

It was so heartwarming to see so many families, friends, and neighbours join us, and to watch our residents having such a joyful afternoon together✨

A big thank you to our incredible staff, everyone who came along and helped make the day so special, and a huge thank you to those that held their stall with us, to Brian who entertained us and to those who donated wonderful prizes towards our day🙌🏻

Yesterday, we enjoyed a wonderful day out exploring the beautiful historic town of Oakham!✨

We stepped back in time with a visit to All Saints Church and the remarkable Oakham Castle before we sat down with a delicious lunch at The George Inn. The stunning Great Hall, with its collection of over 230 ornate ceremonial horseshoes donated by Peers of the Realm, sparked lots of conversation and curiosity! ⛪️

Next, we made our way to Rutland Water, where we boarded the charming Rutland Belle for a relaxing cruise. We learned all about the iconic Normanton Church and shared smiles and waves with paddle boarders and fellow sailors along the way ⛵

To round off the day, we stopped in the picturesque town of Stamford for a well-earned coffee and ice cream— we relaxed with the sun shining down as we fed the ducks on the water🍦

A huge thank you to our staff who made the day so special, and another thank you to Tates Tours for their hospitality, with the entertainment of bingo on our journey, and resulting in our Aggy coming first in the quiz! 👏🏼
Here’s to more adventures and memories ahead!✨

Children from Peel Park Primary School and residents at Anchor - Ashcroft care home exchanged stories of growing up in different eras during a recent visit.

The visit from Peel Park Primary School was made possible by The Linking Network and its Intergenerational Linking programme. The programme brings together young people in schools with older people living in care homes, independent living or from community groups.

The team at Anchor - Berkeley Court care home Leeds have been celebrating after being classed as ‘good’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the second highest rating possible.

The CQC’s robust inspection process gives care homes a rating of outstanding, good, requires improvement, or inadequate based on five categories. Berkeley Court care home was rated good in the three categories inspected.

The CQC inspectors were impressed by colleagues at Berkeley Court respecting people’s preferences and choices and encouraging independence. Inspectors noted that Anchor colleagues were kind and respectful and ensured that people had access to the care and support they required.

This afternoon, Joan enjoyed a wonderful day out at Monach Farm Riding Stables, where she had the pleasure of cheering on one of our staff member’s daughters during her horse riding competition🏇

Joan loved watching the horses in action and even made a few new four-legged friends—especially the friendly goats who were more than happy to say hello!🐐

To round off the trip, we stopped by the nearby garden centre for a well-earned cup of tea and a freshly baked scone, the perfect way to end a lovely afternoon ✨

The ladies are looking fabulous ✨

Well done to the team at Overstone House who recently completed a challenging 26-mile walk in support of Alzheimer's Society, raising £4435 for the vital cause.

The walk marks just one of several community initiatives at Overstone House. The team's fundraising efforts continue with another event in August - a local community dog show and funday where all monies raised will go to Veterans with Dogs, a charity that supplies therapy dogs to veterans.

Our lovely Aggy requested a walk round the gardens this morning, however someone must have heard us, as the heavens opened up ☔️

We suggested a trip to the supermarket as a change of scenery instead, where Aggy picked herself out a new top, a newspaper, a crossword book and a birthday card for her brother🥰
A coffee and a cake weren’t far behind, whilst we waited for the rain to pass ☕️

Sunshine, smiles and special moments✨

Life here is all about enjoying the little things — and this week has been full of them! From games that get us giggling with a little competitiveness, to pamper sessions that leave us feeling fresh and fabulous, there’s always something to brighten our day ☀️

💅🏼Fresh hair & nails? Yes please!
🎲 Bingo, quizzes & board games? We’re in!
🐾 Furry visitors? Don’t mind if we do!
🤞🏼Good company? Always.

This week we also enjoyed singing along to our favourite tunes, as we welcomes back Matt's Miller Magic and his trombone. We enjoyed a quiet cuppa, a knit and natter, where our young friend received his gift of Mario and Luigi, knitted by one of our lovely residents, lunch in the gardens, visits from our four-legged receptionist, and one to one time, sharing stories and reminiscing about our past, there’s never a dull moment — just plenty of heart and laughter🙌🏻

Here’s to more fun, more friendship, and those small moments that make a big difference✨

We welcomed back the fantastic Simon Daniels last week, who filled our lounge with music, wonderful stories, laughter, and joy ✨

Residents were up dancing, clapping, and singing along to every song. It was beautiful to see so many smiles, and some residents and relatives even went up to thank Simon personally for making their day so special🙌🏻

Thank you, Simon, for bringing such happiness to our home – we can’t wait to welcome you back soon🎵

This week, we popped over to Peppercorns Academy to join Caroline, Steve and their Coffee Pots Memory Cafe volunteers for a trip down memory lane🎵

This month, the theme was colours with song’s from Yellow Submarine, to Blue Velvet, Red, Red Robin before finishing off with Summer Holiday ☀️

One familiar melody can awaken precious memories, a favourite song can bring a smile, and a simple rhythm can lift spirits and get everyone moving🙌🏻
We see it every day – the quiet power of music reminding us all that life is still full of joy, connection, and meaning✨
