Learn CPR

Learn CPR Call Push Rescue - three simple steps that could mean the difference between life and death. The person will die within minutes without immediate help.

If someone's had a cardiac arrest, they'll be unconscious, not breathing or not breathing normally. Act quickly and Call Push Rescue. CALL 999 immediately. PUSH hard and fast on the centre of the chest 30 times. Give two RESCUE breaths. Keep going until the emergency medical services arrive. If you’d rather not give rescue breaths then call 999 and deliver Hands-only CPR. That’s better than doing nothing.

Life-Saving Maintenance: Stapleford Community Group Ensures Defibrillator is Ready to Use.

Stapleford Community Group has ensured that the public-access defibrillator at The West End Club (off Derby Road and Brookhill Street, Stapleford) remains in full working order by funding replacement batteries and pads before the old ones expired.

This essential maintenance guarantees that the life-saving device is available 24/7 and ready for use in an emergency.

Why Keeping Defibrillators Operational is Crucial.

Sudden cardiac arrests can happen to anyone, at any time. When they do, quick action with a defibrillator (AED) can mean the difference between life and death.

Public-access defibrillators like this one are vital because:
- They’re simple to use – The device gives clear voice instructions, so anyone can help, even with no training.
- Every second counts – For every minute without defibrillation, survival chances drop by 10%.
- You can’t do harm – The AED will only deliver a shock if needed, so there’s no risk in using it.

How to Use a Defibrillator in an Emergency.

If someone collapses and isn’t breathing normally:
1. Call 999 immediately – The operator will assist you and confirm the defibrillator’s location.
2. Fetch the AED – The one at The West End Club is accessible 24 hours a day.
3. Follow the voice prompts – The device will guide you through pad placement and CPR.
4. Keep going until help arrives – The AED will monitor the patient and advise what to do next.

Community Support Saves Lives.

Stapleford Community Group’s funding for new batteries and pads ensures this defibrillator stays operational when it’s needed most. Regular maintenance is essential, as expired parts can render the device unusable in an emergency.

Teaching Life-Saving Skills in The Old Mill Club in Stapleford.

Earlier this evening, I had the privilege of teaching staff members from The Old Mill Club in Stapleford how to perform CPR and use a defibrillator effectively. It was an honour to equip them with these essential life-saving skills, which can make a critical difference during emergencies.

The session was well-received, and the staff demonstrated great enthusiasm and commitment to learning. We covered the fundamentals of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), the proper use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and how to act quickly and confidently in a cardiac arrest situation.

I’d like to extend my thanks to the Chayah Development Project for allowing me to use their office in Stapleford as a venue to conduct this important training. Their generosity and support played a key role in making this session possible.

This is only the beginning, as more staff members will be trained at a later date. Expanding this knowledge within workplaces such as The Old Mill Club ensures that more people are prepared to act swiftly in life-threatening situations.

For anyone interested in learning CPR and AED skills, I would be more than happy to help. These are invaluable skills that anyone can learn, regardless of prior experience. You can get in touch through the page at https://www.facebook.com/LearnCPRInNottinghamshire to arrange a training session.

Let’s work together to make our community a safer place by empowering more people with the confidence to save lives.

Learn CPR in Just 15 Minutes: A Life-Saving Skill You Can Master Today.

Learning CPR is a vital skill that could help you save a life in an emergency. Fortunately, it’s something you can master in just 15 minutes, thanks to accessible and easy-to-follow resources like those provided by the British Heart Foundation (BHF). Whether you're a complete beginner or someone who wants a refresher, learning CPR can make the difference between life and death in a cardiac arrest situation.

Why Learning CPR Matters

Cardiac arrest can strike anyone at any time, regardless of age or fitness level. When this happens, every second counts. By performing CPR, you can keep blood and oxygen circulating to the brain and other vital organs, giving the person the best chance of survival until professional help arrives.

The BHF has made learning this skill even more accessible with their 15-minute CPR tutorial. Their step-by-step instructions guide you through the basics, ensuring you know how to respond calmly and confidently during a life-threatening emergency. The course covers:

How to recognise cardiac arrest

Performing chest compressions correctly

The importance of using a defibrillator, and how to operate one

You can access the tutorial and begin learning today by visiting the BHF’s website here,
