Over the years, Ive become fascinated by how connected our bodies really are.
When people come to me with pain, stiffness, tight shoulders, lower back discomfort or restricted movement, one of the most common things I hear is:
'I've had massages before and they helped, but the pain always comes back'
And that got me thinking...
Why does relief sometimes only last a few days?
Why do some people respond brilliantly to deep tissue massage while others don't?
The more Ive learned, the more Ive realised there isn't a one treatment fits all approach.
Every person sitting in front of me is different.
Your stress levels.
Your sleep.
Your lifestyle.
Your diet.
Your movement patterns.
Your emotions.
Your nervous system.
It all matters.
One thing Ive learnt is that the body often responds better when we work with it rather than against it.
Deep tissue massage can be incredibly beneficial for some people. But sometimes when we apply too much pressure, the body naturally contracts and guards itself. Relief comes, but it is usually short lived.
This is one of the reasons Ive become so passionate about Myofascial Release.
It's a gentle, slow treatment that works with the fascia, the connective tissue that surrounds and supports every muscle, organ and structure in the body.
Rather than forcing change, we allow the body time to release restrictions naturally.
I've also learned that healing isn't just about what happens during a treatment.
✨ Heat can help tissues soften and relax.
✨ Consistent bodywork helps because the body learns new movement patterns over time. Just like going to the gym once won't make you fit, one treatment rarely undoes years of tension.
✨ Breathing plays a huge role. Most of us spend our days taking quick, shallow breaths without even realising it. I know I do until I consciously check in with myself.
When we slow our breathing, we send signals to the nervous system that we are safe. The body can begin to move away from fight or flight mode and into a state where healing, repair and recovery can happen.
For me, that is what this work is really about.
Not just chasing symptoms.
Not just creating temporary relief.
But helping your body find balance, restore movement, regulate the nervous system and create lasting change wherever possible.
I'm still learning every day, and the more I learn, the more I appreciate how incredible the human body really is.
Healing isn't always about doing more.
Sometimes it's about slowing down, listening and giving the body what it needs.
