What a marathon—what an incredible day! While records were being smashed out on the course, our outstanding team of therapists worked tirelessly and professionally, supporting runners and representing the amazing charities we’ve had the privilege of partnering with for many years. CONGRATULATIONS to Sports Therapy UK tutor and Academic Lead, Jade, who successfully completed the Landmarks Half Marathon on Sunday, raising funds for Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital. 👤 About the Speaker: Mark Leather
Mark Leather qualified as a physiotherapist in 1983, initially spending four years in the NHS before successfully transitioning into the world of professional football.
His remarkable resume spans over a decade in the Premier League. Mark's high-profile roles include:
• Six years as the Head Physiotherapist at Liverpool FC.
• Over 20 years as Head Physiotherapist at various esteemed clubs, including Sunderland, Preston North End, Burnley, and Brighton.
• Serving as the Head of Performance and Medicine at Bolton Wanderers.
• Working beyond football as the Head Physiotherapist at Wigan Warriors RLFC.
Mark’s international and academic credentials are just as impressive. He has worked at the Commonwealth Games (1986) and the World University Games (2007). Furthermore, he spent ten years as a Physiotherapist to the England Futsal Team and lectured for the Football Association for over two decades.
Currently, Mark is the Director of Mark Leather Physiotherapy Ltd and frequently shares his expertise as a guest columnist on sports injuries for the Daily Mail and The Times. While he semi-retired in September 2024, he remains deeply involved in academia; he is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Lancaster and a Subject Matter Expert at Setanta College, Dublin.

We are thrilled to invite you to the next Injury Rehab Network event, hosted in partnership with Sterosport. Join us online on Wednesday, 18th March 2026, for a fascinating presentation titled "Rebooting Robot Rehab: Reframing Exercise Adherence in MSK Rehabilitation".

This session will feature Mike James MSc MCSP, widely known as "The Endurance Physio". Mike will argue for a return to the fundamentals of exercise prescription, helping therapists simplify decision-making and improve rehabilitation outcomes.

About the Speaker: Mike James (The Endurance Physio) 🎓
Mike is an experienced physiotherapist, educator, and speaker with a diverse background spanning the military and elite sport. As a former Military Physical Training Instructor and rehabilitation specialist, he holds master’s degrees in Physiotherapy and Sports Medicine, along with qualifications in Sports Rehabilitation and Strength and Conditioning.

• Current Role: Mike lectures full-time on the Physiotherapy programme at the University of South Wales and runs a busy clinical and coaching practice
• Experience: Over more than 20 years, he has supported practitioners and performers from grassroots to world-class levels.
• Expertise: His main interests include athlete monitoring, exercise prescription, and behaviour change, focusing on helping therapists build effective, engaging rehabilitation plans.
