It’s been a stunning time for us at the World Parkinson’s Congress, with incredibly encouraging conversations from people reporting life changing benefits. One of the greatest joys has simply been giving people a try of BeechBand and watching them experience relief in real time.
Of course, there were also people who didn’t experience immediate changes. But many were encouraged by what they were seeing in front of them, or by the videos they had watched, and decided to give it a go anyway. A few times we invited people to wear it for an hour, or even overnight, and they came back smiling in a kind of bewildered way as they noticed subtle but meaningful changes. One gentleman, after just an hour, went from writing almost unintelligibly to writing clearly.
It was hugely encouraging too to spend time with clinicians and practitioners. Many told us they had already heard about BeechBand and came over for a friendly chat to learn more. Across all three days, our team of six was busy from the moment the exhibition opened until it closed. By the end we were happy, exhausted, and honestly full of gratitude. I also have to say, we had a great laugh along the way. There’s something special about building with talented, passionate and genuinely fun people.
Of course, as with all new things, it takes time to be understood. There will always be people who don’t quite get it, and others who criticise it without ever really seeking to learn more. History shows that disruptive ideas are often dismissed in the early days. That’s simply part of the journey.
The sad part is when people use their platform in a way that may discourage others from exploring something that could genuinely help them. As for us, we’ll keep doing what we’ve always done: loving people, listening carefully, and trying our best to provide accessible support with a 100 day money back guarantee, alongside unlimited free support and coaching.
This week brought some truly humbling and deeply emotional moments. Those moments drown out the small amount of noise from people with personal agendas or from those who are simply deeply uninformed.
I’ve also received a significant number of invitations to speak about BeechBand around the world, so hopefully over the months ahead I’ll be coming to a conference or meeting somewhere near you. What an adventure this is turning into.
On a personal note, I’m still doing really well. Despite the gruelling travel and schedule, I remain symptom and medication free, and only need a short period of wearing the BeechBand every few months or so. It has genuinely changed my life.
The mission now is simple: get BeechBand onto as many wrists and ankles as possible, keep the price as low as we reasonably can, and continue building a values driven company that puts people first and surrounds them with as much free support as possible along the way
