🍂KEEPING BABY WARM - PRAM SUITS ARE FOR PRAMS🍂

Thick, bulky snow/pram suits pose both an overheating risk (babywearing is toasty warm to begin with!) and a suffocation risk if baby slumps inside it. It is also difficult to fit a baby into a sling wearing bulky layers.

Two fun facts for today!

1) You can (typically) babywear while pregnant. Listen to your body, take it easy, and be prepared that you might need to adjust your carrier, or try a different style of sling, as your bump grows. 🫄
2) Our Newborn Slings workshop is suitable for expecting families! Learn how to babywear before your wee one arrives 🙌

✨TOP TIP TUESDAY - KEEPING BABY WARM✨

Autumn is here! 🍂 And with it has come the chilly Scottish wind and rain. It's important to keep baby warm, but dressing baby for the sling is different to how you'd dress them for the pram.

This month our Top Tips will focus on how to keep you and your wee one(s) warm as we approach the chilly months.

♻️CLOTH NAPPY HIRE IN STIRLING♻️

Interested in reusable nappies? Our friends at have put together hire kits for both newborn and birth-to-potty (BTP) cloth nappies - and now you can collect from Stirling!

We can bring the cloth nappy kit to our sling meet if you request, or you collect it from Stirling outwith sling library dates. These kits are hired out with a 'pay what you can' fee so that cost isn't a barrier to cloth. And of course we offer unlimited online support to help you make the switch.

✨TOP TIP TUESDAY - HIP CARRYING WITH X-STRAPS✨

Does your baby like to see more in the carrier? If your carrier can do X-straps, and once you are naturally carrying baby on your hip (usually around 3 months), you can hip carry with your buckle carrier. This is a great alternative to forward-facing and does not have any of the limitations - baby can sleep in a hip carry 🙌

✨TOP TIP TUESDAY - ADJUSTING YOUR CARRIER✨

Is your carrier adjustable at the base? Most 'baby to toddler' carriers have width adjusters such as Velcro, poppers or a cinch/strap to allow them to go small enough for a baby and wide enough for a toddler, all while maintaining the desired 'M' position.

If your carrier has Velcro, you can attach the adjusters anywhere on the Velcro band - you do not need to stay within the 'lines' but you do want to make sure your adjusters are an even width from the centre.

If your carrier has poppers, you want to select the popper that allows the carrier to reach as close to the kneepit as possible without overextending the joint. If your child is between sizes, always size down.

If your carrier has a strap or string for cinching the panel, adjust so that the carrier supports kneepit-to-kneepit.

Forth Valley Slings - a name that aptly represents the communities we support as we grow beyond our initial base of Stirling.

We are also now on Instagram! Please give us a wee follow :)

We're still the same non-profit and we'll still be running the same sling meets (and more!) and offering our services and knowledge. But now we have a fresh new face🫶
