✨ October is ADHD Awareness Month ✨

At Unique Neuro Wellness, we’re proud to stand with individuals, families, and educators to raise awareness, break stigma, and celebrate neurodiversity.

ADHD isn’t just about attention—it’s about creativity, energy, and unique ways of thinking. Every brain is different, and every story matters.

This month, we’re highlighting: ✅ The importance of early and accurate assessment
✅ Support strategies that empower, not shame
✅ Real voices from our community

Let’s build a world where neurodiverse individuals are understood, supported, and celebrated—not just this month, but every day.

Today is World Mental Health Day!

Mental health matters on the days when everything happens and the days when nothing happens. When life is busy and unpredictable and when it’s quiet and ordinary too.

💔 Why Managed Moves & Off-Site Directions Fail Children with SEND

For children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), school should feel safe, stable, and supportive. But when a managed move & off-site directions (OSD) are suggested, it often does the opposite.

A managed move & OSD might sound like a “fresh start,” but for a child with SEND, it can mean losing trusted teachers, friends who understand them, and the routines they rely on to feel secure. Instead of solving problems, it often creates new ones.

Too often, these moves are suggested because the right support hasn’t been put in place. That isn’t fair – and it isn’t right. Children with SEND deserve help where they are, not to be moved on as if they’re the problem.

This isn’t just unsuitable, it feels discriminatory. Our children should be included, understood, and valued – not pushed aside when the system struggles to meet their needs.

👉 Parents, if a managed move or OSD is suggested for your child, ask questions:

What support has already been tried?

Has every reasonable adjustment been made?

Could moving my child cause more harm than good?

You have every right to challenge a managed move or OSD and to fight for the support your child needs in their current school.

Together, we can stand up for inclusion and make sure our children are not moved out, but lifted up. ❤️

“You don’t teach someone to swim while they’re drowning.” 🌊💙

When our children are in the middle of a meltdown 😭, especially those with additional needs, it can feel overwhelming for everyone. But in that moment, their brain is in survival mode 🧠⚡. They aren’t being “naughty” or “defiant”—they’re drowning.

No amount of reasoning, discipline, or teaching will land when a child is in that state 🚫📖. Just like you wouldn’t give swimming lessons to someone who’s already under the water 🏊‍♂️💦, you can’t teach coping skills in the middle of a storm.

What our children need first is calm 🤲, safety 🛟, and understanding 💛. That’s how we help them come back up for air 🌬️. Once they’re regulated and feel secure again 🫶, then is the time to talk, to teach, and to gently guide them towards safer ways of coping next time 🌈.

This doesn’t mean we let everything slide 🚷. Boundaries and learning still matter. But the order matters too—compassion first 💖, teaching second 📚.

It’s not always easy (especially when we’re tired and stretched ourselves 😮‍💨), but remembering this can make such a difference—for us, and for them 🌟.

If your local authority is telling you that you must accept a non-statutory plan like a ‘My Support Plan’ as an alternative or ‘first step’ before they will consider an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), this is simply not true — and it’s not lawful.

These types of plans do not have the same legal status or protections as an EHCP and cannot replace the statutory process that gives your child enforceable rights to the support they need.

There is no requirement to accept a non-statutory plan first.

If you are told otherwise, you should challenge this and we can support you do so. Please book a meeting on our online booking system. We offer a bespoke, one to one, pay as you go service.

✨TOP TIP FOR SEN PARENTS✨

Get a SEPARATE email address for each child.

Because obviously what we all need is… MORE EMAIL ACCOUNTS. 🙃

Instead of one inbox with 642 unread messages, you can now have THREE inboxes with 214 unread each! 🎉
It’s like colour-coding your chaos.

Bonus: when school/LA/medical people say “we definitely sent that,” you can smugly search Child A’s inbox and find it in 0.3 seconds. 🔍📧

Basically, you’re not just Mum/Dad anymore… you’re Head of Admin, full-time PA, and part-time detective. 🕵️‍♀️🕵️‍♂️

You’re welcome. 😉

When local authorities fail to uphold the law—particularly in relation to children with special educational needs—they betray the very trust that communities place in them.

These institutions are legally and morally bound to act in the best interests of every child, yet too often families are left fighting for basic support.

Such failures aren’t just bureaucratic oversights—they’re breaches of duty that can have lasting consequences on a child’s development and well-being.

When the system turns a blind eye, it sends a clear message: that some voices matter less.

This is not just unfair—it’s unlawful.
