When the human body is hungry, it eats itself, removing all sick and ageing cells

When your stomach growls, your body isn’t just craving food—it’s activating one of the most powerful healing processes known to science. It’s called autophagy, which literally means “self-eating.” But don’t be alarmed. This isn’t a bad thing. In fact, it’s a natural cellular detox mechanism where your body breaks down and recycles damaged or ageing components inside your cells. Think of it like spring cleaning for your insides.

When you go for several hours without eating—especially past the 14–16 hour mark—your body’s insulin levels drop. This triggers your cells to switch from digesting food to tidying up their own internal mess. They start breaking down dysfunctional mitochondria, misfolded proteins, and toxins, turning them into usable materials or clearing them out completely. The result? You get fresher, more efficient cells and potentially lower risk of diseases like Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and type 2 diabetes.

This isn’t some fringe health idea—it’s backed by serious research. Dr. Yoshinori Ohsumi even won the Nobel Prize in 2016 for discovering how autophagy works. Studies show that mice put through fasting cycles lived longer, aged slower, and had fewer signs of disease. Some human studies also suggest that practices like intermittent fasting—not eating for 16 hours and consuming all meals in an 8-hour window—can improve heart health, reduce inflammation, and enhance cognitive performance.

Even a 24-hour fast, done occasionally, can significantly boost cellular cleanup. What’s even more amazing is that your body reuses the breakdown products from autophagy. The amino acids, fatty acids, and sugars get recycled to build new cells or fuel your body—meaning nothing is wasted.

Hunger, in this case, isn’t a problem—it’s a solution. In a world where food is always available, our bodies rarely get the chance to activate these ancient survival processes. Our ancestors naturally fasted when food was scarce, and their bodies adapted to thrive during those times.

Fasting isn’t about starving—it’s about giving your body a break from constant digestion so it can focus on repair. Of course, this isn’t for everyone. Pregnant women, people with certain health conditions, or those on specific medications should consult their doctor first. But for most healthy adults, short fasting windows can be a safe and incredibly effective way to support long-term health. It’s like hitting the reset button on a cellular level.

So next time you feel a bit hungry, don’t rush to grab a snack. Let your body do what it’s built to do—clean, repair, and rejuvenate from the inside out. Hunger, in the right dose, might just be the most natural medicine we’ve forgotten.

Acupuncture needles are tiny—like really tiny. In fact, they’re often just a bit thicker than a human hair. To put it in perspective, a single strand of hair is about 0.06 to 0.1 mm thick, while most acupuncture needles range from 0.12 to 0.35 mm. So we’re talking barely-there, whisper-thin little tools.

Now compare that to your average hospital needle—the kind used to draw blood or give shots—which can be anywhere from 0.8 mm to over 1 mm thick. That’s a hefty difference. It’s like comparing a sewing needle to a strand of silk.

And it makes sense: acupuncture needles don’t need to carry medicine or draw blood. Their job is more like sending little signals to your body—stimulating specific points to help with pain, stress, gynaecology problems, insomnia, autoimmune conditions, digestion, you name it - acupuncture treats it! Because of that, they can be super thin, flexible, and much gentler on the body.

That’s why most people barely feel them going in. Some don’t feel anything at all - unless you are carrying inflammation, and then there might be a moment of discomfort. Others might feel a tiny pinch, a tingle, or a bit of warmth—but definitely NOT the ouch-factor of a hospital needle.

So if you’ve been nervous about trying acupuncture - as part of our fully integrative treatment, where you will also receive many other therapies - relax. Acupuncture needles are more like hair-thin whispers to your energy system than nasty pokes!

Remember - at its core, acupuncture doesn’t “fix” things - it encourages your body to fix itself. It gets everything moving in harmony and balance again. It deals with blockages, excess, deficiencies and much, much more!

It’s self-care meets ancient science.

So even if the needles still sound a little mystical, the benefits endless, and infinite - and don’t forget, they form only part of your fully integrated session.

Curious to try it yet?
