The National Cancer Plan for England, launched on World Cancer Day in February 2026, is a key part of the government's 10-Year Health Plan, aiming to save 320,000 lives by 2035 and increase the five-year survival rate to 75%. The plan focuses on four main areas: earlier detection, access to advanced treatments, prevention, and reducing inequalities, particularly in working-class communities.

In 2026, contacting your GP surgery online is a standard service across England. This initiative, a collaboration between the NHS and the UK government, aims to improve patient access and reduce the "8am scramble" for phone appointments.

New Year’s Eve is a peak time for emergency responders nationwide. To ensure you have a great celebration without ending your night in an ambulance, please drink responsibly: eat before heading out, alternate alcohol with water, and arrange your transportation in advance.

Help keep resources available by only calling 999 for life-threatening situations. For urgent but non-emergency medical needs, use the NHS 111 online service or call 111 to be directed to the appropriate care.

📢 Elective Treatment Cancellations at private providers

Due to NHS financial constraints, elective surgeries at certain private providers are being postponed for the remainder of the 2025/26 financial year. Affected Hospitals are Ramsay Rowley Hall/Beacon Park, Nuffield North Staffordshire and Spire Little Aston.

Funding is being reserved for the most urgent cases and patients who will have waited over 52 weeks by the end of March 2026. Most postponed treatments are expected to resume after the start of the new financial year.

No immediate action is required. Affected patients will be contacted directly by their respective private providers. If your appointment has been postponed and you feel your condition has significantly worsened, you should contact the hospital where your appointment was originally scheduled to discuss your clinical needs.

A dedicated webpage has been created by the local Integrated Care Board (ICB) for additional guidance.

➡️ https://www.myplannedcare.nhs.uk/ guide for current waiting times

"We recognize the impact this decision will have on patients and did not reach this conclusion lightly."

Due to financial constraints within the NHS, some planned operations for NHS patients will need to be postponed in the coming months
