This is the kind of area that is 'home' to me, where I feel a sense of belonging to the land.
🌿It's not wilderness. It's not the grandeur of mountains or rugged coasts. It's not the sort of place people from other regions would make a special trip to visit.
🐣There are flight paths, factories, motorways (that's the M56 on the bridge over the canal), litter. Often our green spaces have remained undeveloped because the land is contaminated from the chemical industry.
🌿I love visiting national parks and beautiful beaches. North-West Wales is very special to me and some of my ancestors lived there.
🐣I can see why so much lovely nature-based stuff goes on in Devon (I've even named my envy my 'Devon complex').
🌿I want to return to enchanting places like the Wye Valley and the Hebrides and make first visits to places I read about in nature books.
🐣But I also want to champion these grittier areas. The kind of places on the doorsteps of millions of us, accessible even if you can't afford a Devon cottage or your work keeps you near a chemical plant.
🌿So get out and explore your 'nearby nature', give it the attention it deserves and it will give back - moments of peace, the calmness of being surrounded by greenery, the joy of ducklings and coot chicks (endearingly ugly!).
🐣I hold individual counselling sessions, ecotherapy one-to-ones and nature connection events in these places. See janinekeeblecounselling.co.uk for info or email me janinecounsellor@gmail.com
