Today is Earth Day, which means it’s the perfect time to explore earthing (otherwise known as grounding) to deepen our connection with the world around us.
The Earth is the source of life for everything that lives and breathes; while tapping into the energy of the Universe helps elevate us on a spiritual level, we must remember that our physical health and wellbeing requires constant contact with the Earth, and it’s really important to maintain a healthy balance between these two sources of energy.
Earthing is about finding a stable connection with the strength of the Earth. The first Chakra, Muladhara, is located at the base of the spine and is responsible for grounding our central nervous system; this is the root, the foundation of our whole energy system and, when aligned, helps clear any spiritual blockages.
Meditation is an ideal way of forging this connection with the Earth - visualise yourself as a beautiful tree that takes root deep in the soil and, whilst inhaling, imagine this grounding energy permeating up through the roots and into your whole body; allow any negative or unhelpful emotions to leave your body through the roots and back into the Earth whilst exhaling.
Other techniques to promote grounding include -
- walking barefoot in nature to deepen direct contact with the Earth; walk mindfully and take deep breaths of the clean air around you,
- planting flowers or bushes with your bare hands rather than using tools; really feel the dirt between your fingers,
- eating root vegetables planted in the earth such as cabbage, carrots, celery and potato, making sure to eat consciously,
- engaging in physical activities such as running, dancing or swimming; restorative Yoga is also extremely grounding,
- considering your sexual energy with a focus on connection rather than release,
- booking a foot massage; this stimulates energy channels and encourages an exchange of energy with the Earth,
- taking a warm bath with natural salts to cleanse and replenish energy,
- surrounding yourself with dark-coloured crystals like quartz, rhinestone and volcanic lava rock ; these crystals represent the Earth element and harmonise the Root Chakra,
- listening to a gong bath over a sound bath for an earthier experience,
If you've been feeling disconnected or out-of-sorts lately, grounding may be for you; I offer a Thai Foot Massage (£45 for 45 minutes) via Fika Massage and Reiki and a Guided Forest Meditation (£30 for 45 minutes) via Lotus Yoga and Meditation, both of which are designed to promote restoration and connection.
A £10 discount is applicable if both treatments are booked together in one session ✨✨
