Throwback Thursday: When Doctors Prescribed… Chocolate?!🍫

Yes, you read that right. Back in the 18th and 19th centuries, doctors actually prescribed hot chocolate for coughs. (Hands up if you suddenly feel a tickle in your throat… 👀)
Apparently, the idea was “if it’s warm, soothing, and delicious… it must be medicine!” Honestly, we can’t argue with that logic.
Imagine coming in for a chesty cough and your GP saying “take one mug of hot chocolate, repeat as necessary.” No one would ever miss an appointment again.
Sadly, modern medicine has moved on — so no, we can’t prescribe Galaxy or Dairy Milk today (we’ve asked… repeatedly).

Type 1 diabetes can present at any age but most commonly presents in children and young people. Nearly 40% of children and young people are in life-threatening Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) at diagnosis – and this percentage is rising.

This World Diabetes Day, help prevent serious complications by knowing the four key symptoms of type 1 diabetes – the ‘4Ts’: Toilet (frequent urination), Thirsty (constant thirst), Tired (low energy), Thinner (unexplained weight loss).

If you suspect type 1 diabetes see your GP practice for advice.
