As the weather turns cooler and the days draw in, it’s clear that autumn is truly here. The clocks went back an hour this weekend — a reminder to cook nourishing meals that support our immune system and keep us feeling our best through the season.
What a whirlwind of a week it’s been — and what an incredible start to the Cooking Club!
I’m absolutely delighted to share that our very first session launched successfully last week and was a real hit. The room was full of energy, conversation, and delicious aromas as we explored the theme of protein requirements in midlife — a topic that’s often overlooked but so essential for maintaining strength, energy, and overall wellbeing as we age.
Participants discovered just how important protein is for:
💪Supporting muscle maintenance and bone health
🩸Balancing blood sugar levels
⚡️Keeping energy and focus steady throughout the day
🥩We talked about how much protein our bodies actually need, how to meet those needs through real food, and easy ways to add more high-quality protein into daily meals without overcomplicating things.
Everyone tasted a variety of dishes, including:
✅Homemade yogurt – simple to make, packed with live cultures, and naturally high in protein
✅Simple high-protein granola – far better (and less sugary) than most shop-bought versions
✅Tuscan bean soup – rich, comforting, and boasting over 26g of protein per serving
✅Energy balls – delicious little bites loaded not only with protein but also with magnesium, zinc, and copper, key minerals for hormone balance, mood, and immune health
The feedback was fantastic, with many attendees saying they left feeling motivated, confident, and inspired to make small, sustainable changes to their eating habits.
Next session: Healthy Snack Ideas 🍎
If you couldn’t make it last time, don’t worry — you can join us for the next Cooking Club session this Thursday at Holy Innocents Community Hall, Stourport Road, from 6–8pm.
This time we’ll be focusing on healthy snack ideas — because finding nourishing snacks that don’t spike your blood sugar or leave you feeling sluggish can be a real challenge!
You’ll learn how to:
🎯Choose snacks that help maintain steady energy levels between meals
🎯Balance macronutrients (protein, fats, and complex carbs) for optimal satisfaction
🎯Make simple, portable snacks you can enjoy at home or on the go
The session is friendly, practical, and hands-on, with plenty of opportunity to taste, chat, and ask questions.
I will provide tea, herbal tea, and coffee on arrival to make it a relaxed, social evening.
💷 Cost: £5 (to help cover the cost of ingredients and venue hire)
📋 Registration: Once booked, you’ll receive a short participation form to complete — this helps me understand any allergies or dietary requirements so I can plan recipes and ingredients accordingly.
Please register before Wednesday so I can plan ingredients and cater to any dietary needs.
