Adult weight gain in pre and postmenopausal women increases the incidence of postmenopausal breast cancer, weight loss can reduce risk. To focus on a diet typical to that of the Mediterranean as it significantly reduces endogenous oestrogen levels in healthy postmenopausal women by as much as 40% who are at high risk. Carbohydrates have widely differing plasma glucose concentrations and insulin responses and a diet high in low- GI (Glycemic index) foods, which in turn increase dietary fibre and lowers serum glucose levels is beneficial in keeping plasma glucose concentrations and insulin responses low.

I often get asked “what do you do”

Here’s what people think “I give out dietary advice” after all I have been in the weight loss industry for 20 years!

I started as a Rosemary Conley Diet & Fitness Instructor in 2006 and it all changed from August 2022!

I qualified with an MSc in Nutritional Therapy and now offer 1-2-1 programmes to clients as well as working in the community delivering group sessions. This includes wellbeing talks and resistance exercise in one session- and no it’s not just weight loss!

In my 1-2-1 clinic I begin with taking a detailed health and life history. I map this out to look at potential root causes of symptoms. I use a functional medicine approach looking at how your symptoms connect, identifying possible nutrient deficiencies, imbalances and challenged pathways that may be contributing to how you feel.

My area of expertise is on metabolic health for women in midlife and beyond!

I use this information to optimise:

➡️ Blood sugar balance
➡️ Nutrition & lifestyle
➡️ Gut and liver function
➡️ Metabolic health
➡️ Hormonal health
➡️ Energy at a cellular level

If appropriate I offer testing to help understand what could be happening which can include:

➡️ Microbiome
➡️ Blood markers
➡️ Nutrigenomics
➡️ Saliva, urine, hair
➡️ Hormones
➡️ Cortisol

and assess for nutrient status, toxic load and mitochondrial function.

I also consider……

Supporting metabolic health and longevity benefits with ongoing review and support. I meet my clients regularly offering programmes to regularly monitor progress and adjust where needed.

I sometimes discuss with your healthcare team, with your permission and signpost to additional services where appropriate.

Not only that…..

I give dietary advice……

If this feels familiar, you’re not broken- your metabolism may simply need support.

In midlife, hormonal shifts, blood sugar changes and gut health all play a role in how your body feels and responds. These signs are messages from your body, not a lack of effort or discipline.

This is why I focus on women’s metabolic health rather than weight loss alone- because when metabolism is supported, the whole body benefits.

Save this post if it resonates, or share it with a friend who needs to hear this today 🧡

As the weather turns cooler and the days draw in, it’s clear that autumn is truly here. The clocks went back an hour this weekend — a reminder to cook nourishing meals that support our immune system and keep us feeling our best through the season.

What a whirlwind of a week it’s been — and what an incredible start to the Cooking Club!

I’m absolutely delighted to share that our very first session launched successfully last week and was a real hit. The room was full of energy, conversation, and delicious aromas as we explored the theme of protein requirements in midlife — a topic that’s often overlooked but so essential for maintaining strength, energy, and overall wellbeing as we age.

Participants discovered just how important protein is for:

💪Supporting muscle maintenance and bone health
🩸Balancing blood sugar levels
⚡️Keeping energy and focus steady throughout the day
🥩We talked about how much protein our bodies actually need, how to meet those needs through real food, and easy ways to add more high-quality protein into daily meals without overcomplicating things.

Everyone tasted a variety of dishes, including:

✅Homemade yogurt – simple to make, packed with live cultures, and naturally high in protein
✅Simple high-protein granola – far better (and less sugary) than most shop-bought versions
✅Tuscan bean soup – rich, comforting, and boasting over 26g of protein per serving
✅Energy balls – delicious little bites loaded not only with protein but also with magnesium, zinc, and copper, key minerals for hormone balance, mood, and immune health

The feedback was fantastic, with many attendees saying they left feeling motivated, confident, and inspired to make small, sustainable changes to their eating habits.

Next session: Healthy Snack Ideas 🍎

If you couldn’t make it last time, don’t worry — you can join us for the next Cooking Club session this Thursday at Holy Innocents Community Hall, Stourport Road, from 6–8pm.

This time we’ll be focusing on healthy snack ideas — because finding nourishing snacks that don’t spike your blood sugar or leave you feeling sluggish can be a real challenge!

You’ll learn how to:

🎯Choose snacks that help maintain steady energy levels between meals
🎯Balance macronutrients (protein, fats, and complex carbs) for optimal satisfaction
🎯Make simple, portable snacks you can enjoy at home or on the go
The session is friendly, practical, and hands-on, with plenty of opportunity to taste, chat, and ask questions.

I will provide tea, herbal tea, and coffee on arrival to make it a relaxed, social evening.

💷 Cost: £5 (to help cover the cost of ingredients and venue hire)

📋 Registration: Once booked, you’ll receive a short participation form to complete — this helps me understand any allergies or dietary requirements so I can plan recipes and ingredients accordingly.

Please register before Wednesday so I can plan ingredients and cater to any dietary needs.

Why join the Cooking Club?

The Cooking Club is all about empowering you with the knowledge and confidence to make nutritious, delicious meals that fit your lifestyle. Each session is themed, educational, and interactive — you’ll go home not only with new recipes but also with a better understanding of how food can support your health, energy, and wellbeing.

Whether you’re looking to feel stronger, balance your hormones, or simply enjoy healthy cooking in a supportive community, this is the perfect place to start.
