So today's Tell us Tuesday is a bit different. I want to post about some of the fab doulas in the Lanarkshire area. Something I wish I'd known more about during my pregnancies if I'm honest.

Many people have never heard of a doula before, never mind know what a doula actually is.

There are 2 types of doulas, a birth doula and a postpartum doula.

A birth doula supports you emotionally and physically through pregnancy and labour. Doula's are not medical and they don’t replace your midwife or doctor. They are there for you.

During pregnancy, a doula helps you explore your options, talk through fears, and feel informed and confident.
When labour begins, they come to you and stay with you, until you have had your baby. They help create calm. That might look like massage, encouraging words, suggesting positions, supporting your partner, or simply protecting the atmosphere so you feel safe and steady.
Research, including large reviews from the Cochrane Collaboration, shows that women who have continuous support in labour are:

• More likely to have a vaginal birth
• Less likely to need interventions
• Less likely to have a caesarean
• More likely to feel positive about their experience

And that feeling matters. Birth stays with a woman.
Then there are postpartum doulas, and this support can be just as powerful.
After the visitors leave and real life begins, families often feel overwhelmed. Feeding, recovery, lack of sleep, big emotions, it’s a lot.

A postpartum doula gently steps into that space. They might support feeding, make sure you’re eating, hold the baby while you shower, reassure you that your baby is normal, support siblings, or simply listen while you process your birth.
Around 1 in 5 women experience mental health difficulties in the first year after birth. Feeling supported and not alone makes a real difference.
Doulas don’t take over.
They don’t replace partners.
They hold the space.
They strengthen the family around the mother.
We protect her confidence.
Because no one is meant to do this alone.

I can highly recommend the following doulas:
Born This Way
The Doula and Baby Service
Hamilton Doula
Annie Perry Yoga and Well-Being

Baby Mindful isn't just for your baby........
..... It's for you too. And I know I tease you all for chatting but you also know I love it. Baby classes help you feel less isolated, allow you to share experiences (good or bad), allow you to get support and reassurance from other mums and give you some structure and routine.

What did class help you with???

Finally some sunshine. So nice to get back outside with nature.
