We’re officially open! After months of planning and preparation, Avondale Sports Injury Clinic is now up and running. We’re excited to welcome our community and look forward to helping you move, recover, and perform at your best.

I’ve closed one chapter and opened another. After running Glasgow Sports Injury Centre for the past 20 years, I decided it was time to bring the clinic home to Strathaven.

For those who don’t know me, I’ve been involved in health and fitness for over 30 years. My journey began as a competitive athlete in the late 1980s and early 1990s. That passion for exercise naturally led into my career, where I worked as a Physical Education Instructor for 20 years.

This role introduced me to teaching and rehabilitation, and during this time I began delivering personal training courses for various colleges, as well as starting my own first aid company.
In 2002, I began my degree in Sports Therapy at Teesside University — and the rest is history.

MANUAL THERAPY
Manual therapy involves targeted joint mobilisations designed to reduce pain and muscle spasms, improve mobility, and restore normal range of movement. Techniques such as Muscle Energy Techniques (MET) or Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) use gentle isometric contractions to help regain movement in restricted joints.

EXERCISE REHABILITATION
Following a thorough physical assessment, we develop a personalised exercise programme tailored to your specific needs. Each exercise is carefully selected to strengthen weak muscles, lengthen tight structures, and support a safe and effective recovery.

DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE / MYOFASCIAL RELEASE
Deep tissue massage is a hands-on technique that targets areas of muscle tightness, tension, or thickening. Myofascial Release is a gentle yet highly effective approach that applies sustained pressure to fascial restrictions, helping to reduce pain and restore optimal movement.

MEDICAL ACUPUNCTURE
Medical acupuncture, also known as dry needling, is used to relieve pain and promote tissue healing. By targeting trigger points and areas of muscular tension, this technique stimulates endorphin release, increases blood flow, and supports natural pain relief.

MUSCLE IMBALANCE / CORE STABILITY RE-EDUCATION
As specialists in human movement, we assess areas of muscle weakness or tightness and create tailored programmes to correct imbalances. Our approach enhances core stability, improves functional movement, and supports long-term musculoskeletal health.

KT & SPORTS TAPING
Kinesiology taping uses a highly elastic cotton tape designed to replicate the movement of skin and muscle. Widely used in professional sport, KT can benefit a wide range of musculoskeletal and inflammatory conditions. Precise tape application provides support, enhances proprioception, and promotes mobility without restricting natural movement.
