What does the ideal beginner weightlifter look like…?? 🏋️‍♂️🏋️‍♀️

Sure, having great mobility and a long torso make weightlifting much more comfortable when you’re starting out.

But the key to success when learning weightlifting has nothing to do with the physical…

The ideal beginner is:

✅ able to put their ego to one side and focus on technique before adding weight

✅ patient - results and improvement take time (a LONG time!)

✅ resilient - understanding that failure is an important and useful part of the process

✅ coachable - realising that feedback is there to help you lift better (and not a vicious attack on your personal character 🤣)

Huge props to Gregory here, who has demonstrated all of the above and is lifting impressively well after just over 10 sessions! 👏👏

If you want to try Olympic weightlifting, our Sunday session (11:30am - 12:30pm) is the perfect opportunity. Come join us anytime - your first session is free 💪

Another term has come and gone…and again I’ve done a rubbish job of documenting how brilliantly our kids have been doing 🤣🙈

Here’s Oliver, in his second year of strength training to complement his football performance, lifting significantly more than his body weight with great technique 👏

Unfortunately we continue to have waitlists in place for our Wednesday and Friday sessions…

…but we DO have space on Mondays and Thursdays next term (5-5:45pm) ☺️

If anyone would like their child to learn weightlifting in a safe environment and reap all the amazing benefits that come with strength training, please get in touch 👍

SO PROUD of these three for choosing to compete last weekend at the Crazy Strength Spring Open!

All three started Olympic Weightlifting with us as complete beginners and have done incredibly well in such a short time 😍

Nazat has only been training with us ONCE a week for the last year, and successfully lifted a 34kg sn**ch and 46kg clean and jerk 👏👏

Carlos has only been lifting for roughly 7 MONTHS and achieved personal bests of 66 and 85kg 👏👏

Dan also only gets coached ONCE a week and sn**ched 67kg and clean and je**ed 84kg 👏👏 (look back on one of our previous posts and you can see how much his lifting has progressed in the past 3 years 🤯

Even if you don’t want to compete and just want to lift/learn for fun, I hope you can be inspired by these three ❤️

Our beginner sessions start THIS SUNDAY! There are 2 potential spaces left if you’d like to take on a new challenge in a friendly, supportive environment 😊 just get in touch!

A snippet of one of the best messages I’ve ever received from a member and previous beginner ❤️

I feel very lucky. Every time we run a beginners course, 30-60% choose to join us afterwards as permanent members of our gym.

I NEVER push anyone to do this.

And when I started, I probably lacked the confidence to say that we would be the best place for them to continue their weightlifting journey.

I have no way of knowing how the other beginners (that do their own thing) are doing now…

But I DO have countless stories and examples of the amazing progress of the beginners who stay with us over the years:

✅ they train for longer and more consistently than they ever have at any other gym

✅ they’re stronger and fitter than they’ve ever been before

✅ and most importantly, they enjoy being active more than they ever have before ❤️

THIS is why I am now running permanent beginner sessions on Sundays.

To better support new people to continue their weightlifting journey with us, because, while I’m biased, I believe Ensemble is for many people, a great place to do it 💪

Our new beginner sessions start NEXT SUNDAY 30th March, 10:30-11:30am. You can join us anytime, and you can try it for free first. Please feel free to message for more details or visit ensemblefitness.co.uk/how-to-start/

When you get feedback like this.. 🥹

There is nothing I love more than being witness to someone trying weightlifting for the first time…

…and realising just how awesome it is and how good it makes you feel.

Even better when it’s a teenager and they’ve now potentially got a new hobby for life! 💪

thanks to everyone who takes a moment to leave feedback or reviews 🙏 it makes my day every time ❤️

If you or your child want to try weightlifting, please get in touch. This could be you too! ☺️

FINAL chance to join our new session for 12-14 year olds!

We are so fortunate to have so many children coming back each term, but it means we have had waitlists in place and been unable to welcome many new children for a long time.

This is why we are running a brand new session on Thursdays this term. It is the perfect opportunity if your child has ever wanted to try lifting weights. And perhaps the only opportunity for all the children to start as beginners together.

From experience, it is also the perfect age to start, but if you have an 11 or 15 year old, we may be able to welcome them too.

Please do get in touch if you’d like more info 🙂

BEGINNERS WANTED! ☺️

It's that time of year again where I am searching for another group of brilliant people who:
✅ want to learn how to lift weights safely
✅ are looking for guidance from a qualified coach
✅ might not feel comfortable in commercial gyms
✅ would enjoy learning alongside a small number of people who are also new to strength training

Every year we do this, I am AMAZED at the amount of interest we get for this course.

As well as the amazing mental and physical transformations of those who continue their journey with us afterwards! 💪

If you would like more info, please get in touch. Places are allocated on a first come, first serve basis.

FRIENDS AND FAMILY: If you know someone who would like to do this, we now have a number of vouchers available so you can give this as a gift for Christmas or birthdays! Again please feel free to message for more info 😁

Happy first Gotcha Day to our beautiful girl ❤️❤️

Eternally grateful to Lisa and the Happy Paws team for trusting us to take care of Freyja (Lotty).

She is the best companion to Thor we could have asked for, and the absolute most loveable girl to every single person she meets 🥰

Thanks to all of my members who also give her all the love she craves, and for helping to raise over £700 over the past year to help Happy Paws rescue more dogs from awful conditions in Turkey ❤️

Last weekend ❤️

We held our first ever in-house team competition which raised £550 for Happy Paws Puppy Rescue and STEP Swindon 🥰

Yes, the seemingly endless PBs were fantastic to see.

But even better was seeing numerous individuals conquer their fears and anxieties to perform in front of others in challenges they normally would run away from.

Getting this message after the event sums it up better than I ever could:

‘It was so much fun but on a deeper level I actually feel like the 16 year old me who was so mortified in PE lessons and always made to feel like she wasn’t good enough has been a little bit healed today.’

To some it’s just exercise, or just a gym, but not to us.

I feel very lucky to do what I do, with the best group of people I could ask for 🙏

OUR NAME IS (SLOWLY) CHANGING 😍

5 years ago, I was too afraid to call it a weightlifting club…

I assumed that people wouldn’t want to come to a gym which was focused on building strength rather than burning calories.

I’m pleased to say I was proven wrong!

Our strength class has become our most popular class, and in fact, people of all ages and backgrounds actually seek us out because they WANT to learn how to use weights. Heavy weights too! 💪

Its also now been three years since we started Olympic weightlifting classes, so I think it’s officially time to call ourselves what we are: a weightlifting club 🏋️‍♂️💪

You’ll still see Ensemble Fitness in places, but this will be phased out over the course of the next year 🙂

and we will continue to offer awesome (weights-based) cardio classes because yes, cardio is essential too 😁
