Today is World Sleep Day, and I want to talk about something parents rarely say out loud.
Sleep deprivation can be devastating.
With my first baby, I was a chronically sleep deprived mum.
The exhaustion affected my mental health, my confidence, and my ability to function day to day.
I remember wondering how parents were expected to survive this level of exhaustion.
That experience completely changed the direction of my life.
I left the corporate world and began studying infant and child sleep. Not just tips and tricks, but the science behind why babies and children sleep the way they do.
Over the years I gained multiple sleep certifications and began supporting families who were exactly where I once was.
Exhausted.
Overwhelmed.
And unsure where to turn.
What I want parents to know is this:
You do not have to choose between being a responsive parent and helping your child sleep well.
Sleep is biology.
When we understand rhythms, sleep pressure and temperament, we can support children to sleep in a way that feels aligned and respectful.
Because parents deserve sleep too.
And helping your child sleep well will not damage attachment.
