Two things that I failed to understand.
Firstly, Verity's racing dream sparked many moons ago when she was just a tiny tot, long before Bluey came into our lives. She was captivated by seeing the Shetland Pony Grand National at Royal Windsor Horse Show. So naturally, I always assumed she wanted to race at either that event, in the Castle Grounds, or aiming for the Dream of all Dreams, Olympia! But, it turns out that Verity's dream shaped around her own unique experiences and her adventures with Blue, and she just wants to race her little unicorn, the beautiful Mr Blue, she isn't shooting to the top, she just wants to ride her pony in a real race.
Secondly, she doesn't care for winning! This one surprised me, in my head she was aiming for a first place at Olympia, but all she simply wants is to ride Blue in the race. I think us adults, us parents, are the one's who take a child's dream and we try to help, to mould, to encourage, and sometimes we steer them off track!
I love that Verity has stayed true to herself, she had a dream and she found her partner to achieve it with.
Last year we had hoped that she would race Blue, we had two opportunities, but Blue had some hornet stings on his shoulder and had to sit the racing out. Thankfully we had Presto who was a hot shot racing pony and he looked after Verity beautifully at Wellington, giving her a brilliant first race experience. But then our lorry broke down and we missed the opportunity of racing at Newbury, fingers crossed we are all systems go for Dorset Spring Show.2 weeks to go!!

It is so wonderful to be exactly where you are meant to be, to simply be happy and to have your dreams within reach.
Verity is 8 years of age, she has her own personal dream of racing Bluey, a dream which is set to come true in just two short weeks time, but it has taken 2 and a half years to get to this moment. She has worked hard, she has stayed focused, even when I tried to steer her on to a bigger pony she has kept herself on course. She now has the distraction of riding the bigger ponies once a week at the riding school, and seeing friends achieving and enjoying their bigger and more sporty ponies, but she has sat firm, her and Blue will race together.
Sometimes I wonder if I'm holding her back in her equestrian path, but all riding really is about is to simply enjoy being with a pony that you love, and she is very much achieving that!
Blue is incredible, he tests and he tries her but equally he looks after her when he needs to. To say that I am anxious for their first race is an understatement, but there is nothing more passionate and driven than a pony mad child riding the pony of their dreams, The Unicorn And His Girl have got this!
They will be in their pink silks at Dorset Spring Show give them a wave if you see them, those who have followed this duo for the last couple of years will remember Verity working hard on perfecting her wave to the crowd! 🤣

Sometimes we just need a little help from our friends, and there is no greater friend than a big sister 😍

A wonderful way to spend a Friday, I had the small animal team out to visit some old friends and we met many new ones too. We then had a friend due to come to the farm for a playdate, but it soon escalated into many friends so we ordered pizza and even ended up with a make shift game of pass the parcel. The kids ran and played, cycled and ate to their hearts content.
Grubby cuddles with Mimosa before heading home for a bath and being posted off to bed with full tummies and happy hearts. I live for the lighter evenings, I try so hard to push on through the winter with enthusiasm for bat walks and night hikes, but this is so easy, this is food for my soul, the warmth of the sun and the lighter evenings, it's heavenly.

A quick Mimosa check in for those interested in what it takes to become a therapy pony.
Vibrations.....sounds old, but these wonderful new beds and chairs sometimes have a pressure system or built in massage, so it's on the list to tick off that Mimosa won't have heart failure when her whiskers start vibrating! Obviously, she aced the interaction and went on to have a full back massage!

Looking ahead to May, we have a couple of slots available for animal therapy visits, either with the full team of smaller animals accompanied by the tiny sheep, or with Noodles and Mr Kipling (Shetland pony and miniature donkey) We can visit nursery schools with grooming, cuddles and story telling
