                                            【Autumn Wellness · TCM Tips】
As autumn deepens and heat gives way to cool, it’s the season of “yang waning, yin growing.” The most common issue now is “autumn dryness”: dry throat, itchy skin, cough, even eczema flare-ups. In TCM, autumn corresponds to Metal and the Lung, so nourishing yin and protecting the lungs are the priorities.
From the Prime & Naturals TCM team—simple tips to ease into the season:
1️⃣ Moisturize first • Nourish lungs, soothe skin
Eat more “white” foods that moisten and nourish yin: pear, lily bulb, white fungus (tremella), Chinese yam. Try a gentle, soothing Pear–Lily–Almond Soup for a lightly sweet, throat-soothing treat.
2️⃣ Early to bed, early to rise • Settle the mind
The Yellow Emperor’s Classic says: “In the three months of autumn, sleep early and rise early, awakening with the rooster.” Aim to sleep before 11 pm, take a morning walk, and practice daily deep breathing to gently gather your energy.
3️⃣ Keep neck and back warm • Guard against wind
Early autumn brings big temperature swings. “Wind” easily invades from the nape and upper back. Carry a light jacket or scarf and protect Dazhui (GV14, midline at the base of the neck) to reduce colds and flare-ups.
4️⃣ Gentle movement
Walking, Tai Chi, and yoga are excellent. Stop at a light sweat and add layers after exercising to stay warm.
💬 Doctor’s Note
Autumn wellness is not about how much you “tonify,” but about living in harmony with the season and caring for your Lung Qi.
If you often experience cough, eczema, or respiratory discomfort in autumn, consult a licensed TCM practitioner for a personalized treatment plan.
Special Reminder: Children and the elderly should pay extra attention to the temperature difference between morning and evening. Carry a light jacket for warmth when going out.
