Feeling anxious? Try these three breath-based practices you can do in under five minutes — I use them with clients across Hull and the East Riding to bring calm fast. 1) Box breathing (4–4–4–4): Inhale 4, hold 4, exhale 4, hold 4. Why it helps: slows the nervous system and reduces panic. Use it as an immediate reset during a flare-up. 2) Nadi Shodhana (alternate nostril breath) for 2–3 minutes: Gentle, balanced breathing through each nostril. Why it helps: balances the left and right brain, easing rumination and restoring focus — great before a stressful conversation or meeting. 3) Grounding belly breath with a 6-second exhale: Breathe into the belly, then a slow 6-second exhale with hands on the lower ribs. Why it helps: stimulates the vagus nerve for longer-term calm and reconnects you to the body — ideal for ongoing self-care. These techniques draw from yoga therapy and energy-healing practices and fit into a broader care plan alongside talking therapy, pacing strategies, and medical support when needed. I know how stubborn lower back pain can be — I’ve seen how it creeps into daily life and drains joy. Gentle, mindful yoga can be a true ally: short, consistent practices that mix breath, safe alignment and simple props often ease tension and build lasting strength. Try these gentle moves for 10–15 minutes: Cat–Cow to warm the spine, Child’s Pose to release the lower back, Bridge to strengthen glutes, and Supine Twist for mobility.

If Downward Dog feels tight, bend your knees, engage your core and use blocks — small modifications make a big difference. If you’d like personalised support, I offer tailored yoga therapy and complementary approaches to help manage pain safely and sustainably.
